January 2024 was certainly exciting with many new launches and we at Zigwheels had a blast covering them all. If you weren’t keeping up with the news then this overview will get you up to speed.
Kawasaki entered 2024 with all guns blazing and launched the Kawasaki Eliminator at an ex-showroom price of Rs 5,62,000. The bike is powered by the same 451cc parallel-twin engine used on the Kawasaki Ninja 500 and produces 45.4PS at 9000rpm and 42.6Nm at 6000rpm.
With this launch Kawasaki plans on digging into Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650’s market. But they won’t be giving a tough competition to Royal Enfield, here’s why we think so.
Bajaj’s first launch in 2024 was the updated Chetak electric scooter, with the Premium variant now coming with more features and better range. The changes have made the scooter more suited to compete with its rivals like the Ola S1, Ather 450S and TVS iQube Electric. Here’s all you need to know.
Ather took us by surprise and launched the Ather 450 Apex, their most powerful scooter till date at a price of Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru, without FAME 2 subsidy). The scooter is a limited edition and comes with many new features such as ‘Magic Twist’ which is negative throttle for regen braking, as well as a quicker Warp+ mode.
Then there’s the performance enhancements that have made it faster than the Ather 450X and also increased the e-scooter’s certified range. For a detailed breakdown of the performance figures, check out our launch story here.
Jawa started 2024 by launching the Jawa 350, a new and updated retro cruiser that replaces the Jawa standard. The new bike comes with a bigger engine and some changes to the underpinnings that have given the bike a new life. The engine is now a larger 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit that outputs 22.5PS and 28.1Nm, which is 4.83PS lower than its predecessor, but makes 1.18Nm more.
In terms of underpinnings, the manufacturer has increased the bike’s wheel base and also brought in some new features such as disc brakes at the front and rear with dual-channel ABS. With these updates the question still remains: does the Jawa 350 have what it takes to go head to head with the likes of Royal Enfield Classic 350, Benelli Imperiale 400 and the Honda H’ness CB350? Read our launch story here to find out.
The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is a bobber offering from Royal Enfield, it was first unveiled at Motovse 2023 and has now been launched at an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs 3,59,430. Although the Shotgun 650 is built on the Super Meteor 650 platform, Royal Enfield has made a few changes in terms of design that gives the Shotgun 650 a unique identity.
The bike is powered by the same 648cc, air-oil cooled, parallel-twin engine that we have seen on models like the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 and the Super Meteor 650. It produces 47PS and 52.3Nm. The Shotgun 650 is offered in 4 different colour themes and prices vary quite a bit. For a detailed breakdown of the prices, check out our launch story here.
Ever since the 2024 updated KTM 390 Duke and the KTM 250 Duke came to the market, we had been expecting Husqvarna models to follow suit and come with similar changes as well. But the manufacturer surprised us by launching the new Svartpilen 401 along with the 2024 Vitpilen 250 hot on the heels of the KTMs. The Svartpilen 401 is a scrambler style motorcycle while the Vitpilen is more of a neo-retro roadster style motorcycle.
The bikes have not only received the same updates that the KTM 390 Duke and 250 Duke did but are also surprisingly more affordable than their counterparts. Here’s how much you can save when picking the Husqvarna over the KTMs.
Honda started this year by launching the Honda NX500 at an introductory price of Rs 5,90,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The bike is powered by a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine churning out 47.5PS at 8600rpm and 43Nm at 6500rpm.
The Honda NX500 will rival other ADVs in the market such as the Benelli TRK502 in terms of price and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure when it comes to performance.
At the Hero World 2024 event, Hero launched the Xtreme 125R, a sporty 125cc motorcycle which will rival the likes of TVS Raider 125, Bajaj Pulsar NS125 and Honda SP125. Pricing for this bike starts at Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and comes with many segment first features such as the largest front disc brake which also gets single-channel ABS along with a few other things, Here are the details of the features.
Over the years, Revolt has been known for the RV400, a tried and tested electric motorcycle which has been quite popular among riders. But someone who is just starting out their journey with electric bikes might just find the Revolt RV400 a little pricey.
So Revolt launched the Revolt RV400 BRZ at a starting price of Rs 1,37,950 (ex-showroom) making it their most affordable e-bike. The RV400 BRZ can be described as a simpler version of the RV400 with some of its more expensive features removed. Here’s what makes it different.
