Jeep is readying a new 7-seater SUV that’s based on the Jeep Compass platform for India. It is similar to the Brazil-spec Commander SUV but is likely to bear a different name. It’ll rival the Toyota Fortuner in India, and prices are likely to start at around Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Jeep three-row SUV features Compass-inspired headlights and a distinct bumper design. You can see its resemblance to the Compass in the profile, but the straight window line and large windows for the third row differentiate it from the smaller Jeep SUV. The spied vehicle’s front bumper houses a sensor that’s likely used for ADAS features which are not available in the India-spec Compass yet.

In the Brazil-spec Commander, you get adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic detection, lane departure warning, park assist and adaptive headlamps. The Commander’s AEB system can detect pedestrians, cyclists and even motorcycles – a useful feature to have in India. It also comes with seven airbags as standard, but it remains to be seen how Jeep plans its variants in India.

The Jeep-seven seater SUV is likely to be offered with similar engines as the Compass, which can be had with a 170PS 2-litre diesel or a 160PS 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. A six-speed manual gearbox could be standard, and automatic options will be available with the petrol and diesel engines.
We expect to get our first glimpse of the Jeep seven-seater SUV in the coming months ahead of its launch by the first half of this year. It will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Toyota Fortuner SUVs.
