The Kawasaki KLX 230 is powered by a 233cc, air-cooled, 2-valve single-cylinder engine producing 19PS and 19.8Nm (Indonesia-spec model). Its direct rival in India, the Hero XPulse 200 4V’s 4-valve motor produces 18.9PS and 17.35Nm. The KLX 230 S produces more power and torque from a bigger capacity engine but the XPulse gets a 4-valve engine compared to the KLX which gets a 2-valve setup.

Braking duties are handled by 240mm front and 220mm rear petal disc brakes with dual-channel switchable ABS. It gets 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels while the seat height stands at 820mm (5mm more than the XPulse) and the kerb weight stands at 134kg (25kg less than the XPulse).

In terms of features, the KLX 230 S gets an LCD instrument console that shows speedometer, odometer, trip meter, digital clock, and fuel gauge readouts. As the bike will be heavily localised in India, it is expected to be priced between the Rs 2.5 lakh - Rs 2.7 lakh (ex-showroom) mark, which will make it the most affordable Japanese dual-sport bike in India. The KLX 230 S is likely to be launched in early 2025.
