Arrival of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R, an inline-four-cylinder 400cc bike, is confirmed. The registration of the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the supersport has come to the surface, revealing that it will be available in two variants.
Powering the upcoming fully faired bike by team green will be a four-stroke, inline four-cylinder engine displacing 399cc. While there’s no word on the power and torque outputs yet, we can expect Kawasaki to bless it with around 70PS. For perspective, the four-cylinder Ninja ZX-25R’s 249.8cc mill produces 49.9PS at 15,500rpm and 22.9Nm at 14,500rpm. Similar to the ZX-25R, expect the ZX-4R to get a high-revving engine with power band perched at the top of the rev range.
As far as the looks are concerned, expect the Ninja ZX-4R to be a beefier and more aggressive version of the Ninja ZX-25R. The quarter-litre bike sold in select markets gets a sharp body design with high rise fuel tank and a committed sporty seating position.
Interestingly, the VIN registration documents two variants: ZX400PP and ZX400SP. However, it is likely that the only difference between the two will be the availability of ABS. The supersport may also feature an adjustable USD fork and monoshock suspension setup. For braking, it is likely to get dual discs up front and a single disc at the rear, with radial callipers unlike the axial units on the Ninja 400.
That said, it is highly unlikely for Kawasaki to bring the Ninja ZX-4R to our shores. That’s primarily because it will be super expensive to do so taking into perspective that the Kawasaki Ninja 400 currently retails at Rs 4,99,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) in India. It makes the bike a lot more expensive than its direct rival, the KTM RC 390, priced at Rs 3,16,070 (ex-showroom Delhi).
