Last year Kawasaki teased the arrival of a new bike donning the ‘ZX’ moniker. While most of us speculated the coming of the Ninja ZX-4R, Kawasaki launched the updated Ninja ZX-25R in Indonesia. However, this time around a leaked type approval document and launch teaser for February 1 suggest the inline-four cylinder 400cc super sport is all set to debut in the US market.
As per the California Air Resources Board (CARB) type approval document, the upcoming Ninja ZX-4R will be powered by a (four-cylinder) 399cc mill, mated to a six-speed transmission. Interestingly, last year, a VIN registration documented two variants: ZX400PP and ZX400SP, and in this type approval document the latter has been underscored once again. Check out our story on what to expect from the upcoming Ninja ZX-4R.
It is highly unlikely that India will see the ZX-4R on its shores. But, if a Kolkata biker can buy India’s first and only Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R, we won’t be surprised if an Indian enthusiast will see the merit in importing ZX-4R too! With middleweight supersports being on the expensive side, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R should serve as the perfect (relatively) and affordable alternative to the 650cc and 700cc bikes such as the Yamaha R7, Honda CBR650R, and the Aprilia RS660 in developed markets.
