It seems the recently launched Kia Carens has picked up quite the momentum, with the carmaker revealing that it has already booked more than 50,000 units of the three-row MPV within just two months of reservations opening in January.
The Kia Carens was launched in February at introductory prices ranging from Rs 8.99 lakh to Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is available in five trims: Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus, and it’s offered as both 6- and 7-seaters.
Interestingly, almost half the bookings made have been for the diesel variants. Kia claims that around 30 percent of the reservations were for the Caren’s automatic variants, and in that, nearly 43 percent for the top-of-the-range Luxury and Luxury Plus trims.
The Carens comes loaded with features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digitised driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bose sound system, connected car tech, 64-colour ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof and segment-first electronic tumble for the second row. Six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill descent control cover passenger safety.
The Kia Carens gets three engine options: 115PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, and 115PS 1.5-litre diesel. A 6-speed manual is standard, and the optional transmission are a 7-speed DCT (for the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol) and a 6-speed torque converter (1.5-litre diesel).
The Kia Carens has multiple rivals including the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, as well as select variants of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700.
