Kia Seltos Achieves A Big Feat, Hits The 5 Lakh Sales Mark

• Kia Seltos racks up over 5 lakh sales mark in India.

• Facelifted Kia Seltos expected to launch soon. 

The Kia Seltos has always been one of the most popular choices in the compact SUV space in India. Being a debut model for the Korean marque, the Seltos was extremely well received and it’s safe to say that it was a blockbuster hit. So much so that the Seltos has crossed the 5 lakh sales mark in India since its launch in August 2019. 

The Seltos kickstarted Kia’s innings in the Indian market and boy, what a journey it has been so far for the carmaker! It slotted in the compact SUV space which was being ruled by its immediate nemesis, the Hyundai Creta. And despite having such a well established rival to compete with, the Seltos even overtook its Hyundai cousin at various occasions in terms of sales. 

It brought a fresh new outlook to that particular segment with its European looks, upmarket interior, its grocery list of features, and plethora of powertrain options. Moreover, Kia themselves did its homework – the main one being a well-established dealer network for sales and aftersales – ensuring its product was a hit. 

Of course, all wasn’t smooth sailing for the SUV. It barely passed the Global NCAP safety test (based on older regs) with a three-star rating and an unstable body. And when the new-generation Creta came into the market, the Seltos was second in its segment most of the time in terms of sales figures in its segment. 

But soon, Kia aims to get back to the top step of the podium with the facelifted Seltos. It will get a styling refresh, even more features (probably ADAS) and an updated and more powerful 160PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. It’s expected to launch soon and will continue rivalling the Hyundai Creta, VW Taigun, Maruti Grand Vitara as well as the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross and Honda Elevate.
