Kia Seltos Diesel Ditches Manual ‘Box For iMT Clutchless Transmission, Turbo-petrol Variants Discontinued For Now, Revised Prices Revealed

  • Kia Seltos has been updated to meet BS6 phase II norms and E20 material compliance. 

  • Only gets 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre NA petrol engine options on offer for now.

Kia has updated its premier SUV in India, the Seltos, with RDE-compliant, E20-ready powertrains and rejigged its variants on offer. The compact SUV’s diesel variant now gets an iMT as standard instead of a proper manual gearbox, alongside the option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

For now, there is no turbo-petrol engine being offered as the 1.4-litre unit has been discontinued. The enthusiast-friendly engine option is likely to be reintroduced with the facelifted Seltos, which will get a new, powerful 1.5-litre unit.

  • At the entry level, the Seltos now starts at Rs 20,000 more than before for the most affordable, base-spec petrol-manual SUV. 

  • All diesel variants get an even price hike of Rs 50,000. 

  • No petrol-powered GT-Line variants are currently on offer. HTX is now the top trim level  for the petrol Seltos. 

  • Range-topping Seltos X Line is diesel-only for now.

  • All powertrains are now RDE-compliant and E20 ready. 

  • Seltos is currently only offered with its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel unit. 

  • More powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is likely to be introduced with the Seltos facelift, paired with six-speed iMT and seven-speed DCT automatic transmissions. 

  • The Seltos petrol is the only one to get a proper six-speed manual gearbox as standard, diesel variant gets an iMT clutchless-manual ‘box. 

  • CVT automatic only available on the Seltos HTX petrol variant. 

  • A proper 6-speed torque converter automatic is offered with the diesel engine in the HTX, GTX+ and X Line variants. 

  • No GT-Line or X Line turbo-petrol variants are currently available as the 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine has been discontinued. A new turbo-petrol engine option will be introduced in the facelifted Seltos later on.
