Kia Sonet gets new mid-spec GTX variant
The GTX variant slots in between the HTX+ and GTX+ variants
GTX variant packs a 360-degree camera over the HTX+
GTX variant can be had with both turbo-petrol and diesel engines with automatic transmissions only
Top-spec X-Line trim gets a new Aurora Black Pearl exterior shade
Kia has just updated its Sonet sub-4m SUV with a new mid-spec GTX variant and a new colour for the top-spec X-Line trim. The new variant sits between the HTX+ and GTX+ and takes the Sonet’s total lineup to 10 variants. It makes a few features more accessible and offers an affordable alternative to the GTX+ trim. Let’s take a look at the changes:
The new GTX variant slots right in between the HTX+ and GTX+ trims.
Variants |
Price (ex-showroom) |
HTX+ turbo iMT |
Rs 13.60 lakh |
HTX+ diesel MT |
Rs 13.90 lakh |
HTX+ diesel iMT |
Rs 14.60 lakh |
GTX turbo-petrol DCT |
Rs 13.71 lakh |
GTX diesel AT |
Rs 14.56 lakh |
GTX+ turbo-petrol DCT |
Rs 14.54 lakh |
GTX+ diesel AT |
Rs 15.66 lakh |
Just like the GTX+, the GTX gets two powertrain options: 120 PS/172 Nm 1-litre turbo petrol with a 7-speed DCT, and a 116 PS/250 Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.2-litre NA petrol engine is still limited to the lower variants.
It is offered in the same 7 monotone exterior hues, and save for the spoiler, its exterior cues are identical to the GTX+. The differences, however, come in the form of its features list. While it gains a 360-degree camera over the HTX+ variant, it misses out on three features offered by the GTX+: ADAS, ambient lighting and a 7-speaker Bose sound system.
Despite these misses, it still gets plenty creature comforts that will keep you satisfied:

Dual 10.25-inch digital screens |

360-degree camera |
Wireless phone charger |
Air purifier |

Electric ORVMs |
4-way powered driver’s seat |
Even the safety kit is expansive with Sonet’s standard list, which comprises six airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-start assist, ISOFIX mounts, and rear disk brakes.
Sonet’s top-spec X-Line trim was easily identifiable via its exclusive Matte Graphite exterior hue.
And while that still continues to be specific to the X-Line, Kia has added a new Aurora Black Pearl to the X-Line’s colour palette. There are no changes for the interior theme as that continues with its all black theme with Xclusive Sage Green inserts.
Kia retails the Sonet between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 15.77 lakh (ex-showroom).
It sits in a segment with fierce rivalry as it goes up against the Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Renault Kiger.
