The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t seem to be holding Lamborghini back, as the Italian carmaker has sold a record-breaking 6,902 units in 2021 already (from January to September). This is a significant year-on-year (YOY) growth of 23 percent.
At 4,085 units, the Urus super SUV outsold the others, followed by the Huracán (2,136) and the Aventador (681). The Urus is popular here in India as well, with the carmaker confirming in March this year that the super SUV had by then already found 100 homes in the country since its launch in January 2018.
Commenting on this milestone, Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said, “The Lamborghini brand is in an extremely strong position, with a comprehensive and highly desirable model range across V10, V12 and the Urus Super SUV. The company not only weathered the difficult climate of the last 18 months but consistently maintained its volume growth, which is testament to the strength of our product portfolio, the marque’s continuing appeal worldwide and our business strategy and dealer network."
Lamborghini has its eyes trained on switching to electrics in this decade. The carmaker plans to have hybrid versions of the Urus SUV, the Huracan, and its successor to the Aventador by 2024. It has also affirmed its intent to bring out its first all-electric model by 2030.
