1 lakh sales is no small feat even by Maruti standards, especially when it is racked up in just 10 months

  • Maruti Fronx has racked up 1 lakh sales in 10 months.

  • Automatic variants accounted for 24 percent of the sales.

  • 1-litre turbo-petrol engine was also in high demand.

  • Over 9,000 units have been exported to international markets.

  • Prices range between Rs 7.46 lakh and Rs 13.13 lakh (ex-showroom)

After its showcase at the Auto Expo, Maruti launched the Fronx sub-4m crossover SUV in India in April 2023. Ten months later, the Fronx has clocked an impressive feat of 1 lakh sales, helping Maruti cement a dominating position in the subcompact SUV segment (they also have the Brezza).

Despite the plethora of options in the segment, the Fronx poses a unique proposition with Grand Vitara-like styling that grabs attention. It also gets multiple powertrain options, including an enthusiast-friendly turbo-petrol and choice of two types of automatics – a six-speed torque convertor automatic or a five-speed AMT.

Despite the automatic transmissions carrying a higher price than their equivalent manual variants, they accounted for 24 percent of the total sales, which is 24,000 units. Maruti also divulged that the demand for the turbo-petrol engine was high, but did not reveal its exact sales figures.

Fun fact: The Fronx’ turbo-petrol engine makes it the quickest Maruti we’ve tested to date.

Apart from the petrol powertrains, the Fronx also gets a CNG option, which makes it appeal to an even larger crowd looking for lower running costs. Not only is the sub-4m crossover SUV made and sold in India, it is also exported to Latin America, the Middle East, and South-East Asian markets. Maruti reveals over 9,000 units have been exported so far.
