The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door, so far exclusively manufactured in India, recently made its debut in Australia as the Jimny XL. It is similar to the India-spec Jimny, but is offered with different colour options and gets additional safety features. In this read, we will be comparing both the models sold in the Indian and Australian market. Take a look:
The Australia-spec Jimny closely resembles the model we get here. The main differentiating point, though, is that the Jimny XL gets two exclusive paint schemes, but omits the Kinetic Yellow that’s available here. The colour choices are detailed in the table below.

Both, the Australia-spec and India-spec Jimny, feature a similar blacked-out dashboard with rotary dials for climate control and chunky controls for window switches. Additionally, the Jimny XL gets extra safety features compared to the India-spec Jimny, which we will highlight in the next section.

Rest of the features list of the Jimny XL is similar to the India-spec model, which includes a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, and connected car technology.
It is the safety features list where the Australian Jimny does better than the Indian model, as it comes equipped with ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a dual camera brake support system.
Other safety features include ABS with EBD, six airbags, electronic stability control, brake assist, and ISOFIX mounts for the child seats.
Another difference between the two models is that the Jimny XL is offered in Australia in a single, fully loaded variant, while the Indian, Jimny 5-door is available in two variants: Zeta and Alpha. On the other hand, Australia is one of the markets where you can buy the Jimny in both the three-door and five-door versions.
The Jimny XL is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering 102 PS and 130 Nm, while its India-spec counterpart produces a bit more power at 105 PS and 134 Nm. Both models feature four-wheel-drive with a low-range transfer case, and are paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The India-spec Jimny recently received a price cut and is now priced from Rs 10.74 lakh (ex-showroom) for a limited time period. You can find more details about it here. In the Indian market, the Jimny competes with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
