Maruti Suzuki has been the top-selling brand in the country with mass-market products selling like hot cakes. The recently launched Maruti Suzuki Swift in its fourth gen avatar, has been the top selling hatchback in the month of May with over 19,393 units sold in a single month. It has been giving a tough competition to its competitors from rivaling brands, but can also be stacked against its own siblings in a highly price sensitive market. In this article we put the mid-spec Swift Vxi variant up against the top-spec Celerio Zxi+ variant, to see if a marginal premium of Rs 25,000 can alter your decision of picking the Swift over the Celerio.

It is pretty evident from the table above that the Swift is slightly larger than the Celerio in all dimensions. Hence, interior space is subjectively going to be larger than that of the Celerio. But it is also worth pointing out that the Celerio has a larger boot capacity and a higher ground clearance than the Swift.

Both these hatchbacks stack almost equally when it comes to comfort and convenience features. The Swift mid-spec gets additional airbags, automatic climate control along with rear AC vents, and halogen projector headlamps over the Celerio.
While the Celerio may miss out on the aforementioned features, the top-spec Zxi+ variant gets 15-inch alloy wheels and keyless push button start/stop functionality over the Swift Vxi.

The new-gen Swift is powered by a Z12E series 3 cylinder 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, which is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Celerio gets a 1-litre K10 petrol engine, mated to similar 5-speed manual and automatic transmissions. It is obvious from the table that the Celerio is underpowered when compared to the Swift.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio Zxi+ AMT variant is just Rs 25,000 cheaper than the manual transmission Swift Vxi. With comfort and convenience features almost at par with each other, taking a jump of Rs 25,000 over the top-spec Celerio is a viable option, considering you get better performance and cabin space with better safety equipment on offer.
Hence, if you are in the market looking for a top-spec small hatchback like the Celerio, and if you can let go of a few features here and there, it is worth considering looking out for options of a larger hatchback like the Swift.
