We’re just 12 days into the new year and Mclaren has already brought a new supercar to India. Say hello to the Mclaren 750S, the successor to the 720S, which can be yours for a price tag of Rs 5.91 crore (ex-showroom). In all fairness, the 750S isn’t a radically new car. That said, it does push the envelope drafted by the 720S in every sense. Why change what already works, right?
A facelifted 720S
It’s true. The 750S does look like a facelifted 720S. It has the same nose, with slight tweaks to the bumper which makes the design look cleaner. The headlight styling is similar, but is slightly narrower than before.
The teardrop silhouette (top view) has been retained and defines the many curves of the exterior, but there have been small tweaks for aerodynamic purposes. The rear, too, has been given incremental tweaks with changes to the bumper, the new deck, and the new mesh grille.
The exhaust system (lighter by 2.2 kg) is now mounted in the centre, which allows for the active rear wing to be placed higher than before. Mclaren says this allows for a new, clearer exhaust tone than before.
Every cut, crease, scoop, and air vent on the 750S isn’t just a form of style but actually has function to it – all with a goal to optimise air flow, reduce drag and maximise downforce.

It sports vents in the rear wheel arches and also gets a rather subtle diffuser design. Mclaren is probably saving the more aggressive diffuser design for the even more hardcore LT derivative for the future.
Familiar cabin
Draped in Alcantara, the cabin of the 750S isn’t a big departure from the 720S. But Mclaren has given it small tweaks which come in the form of the driver’s display which moves with the steering column. The steering is devoid of any buttons, which are instead mounted on the instrument binnacle for ease of access.

The central infotainment system gets Apple CarPlay (no Android Auto, so sorry Android users) and you get a Bowers & Wilkins sound system to blast your music through. So while the performance might be unforgiving, the 750S will keep you happy when you’re going at a relaxed pace.
The Technicalities
The Mclaren 720s, at the time of its launch (2017), was a groundbreaking innovation in the supercar world – pushing and setting new benchmarks. The 750s takes the recipe, tweaks it with more power (+30PS), less weight (-30kg), and a whole lot of trickery underneath the frame.
Specification highlights are 750PS and 800Nm from a 4-litre twin-turbo V8. Power is delivered to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed automatic, which slingshots the car from nought to 100kmph in just 2.8 seconds. Top speed comes in at 332kmph and you get 6-piston callipers gripping the carbon ceramic brakes for some much-needed stopping power.

Other revisions to the mechanicals come in the form of the faster steering ratio, new lightweight springs, dampers, and a revised suspension geometry. And in what will be a rather useful feature on our shores, the 750s gets a new vehicle-lift system, which raises the front of the car in just four seconds – less than half the time of the 720S.
We reckon the Mclaren 750S is going to be the last of its kind – unfiltered by any hybrid and electrical systems – to come out of the factory in Woking. Their entry-level Artura, is already a hybrid V6 sports car, and the future will surely have Mclaren churning out more hybrid vehicles. So while the 750S might not be a ‘brand new’ car, it still represents the very last of what made us fall in love with cars in the first place. We hope we can get behind the wheel of one very soon. Hey McLaren India, we hope you’re reading this!
