MG Motor India has officially pulled the plug on the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Astor. This engine, which delivered 140 PS and 220 Nm of torque, was only available in the top-end Savvy Pro variant. The likely reason? Low demand has pushed MG to simplify the lineup and focus on the naturally aspirated petrol variant that has proven to be more popular.
What’s Under the Hood Now?
With the turbo-petrol gone, the Astor is now solely powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This unit produces 110 PS and 144 Nm of torque and comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or an 8-step CVT automatic transmission. While it may not match the punch of the turbo unit, it still offers a balanced mix of performance and efficiency.
2025 MG Astor Updates
MG has compensated for the engine change with feature enhancements across the lineup. The entry-level Shine variant now comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof and a six-speaker sound system as standard.
The Select variants get six airbags and premium ivory leatherette seats, elevating safety and comfort levels. Additionally, the i-SMART 2.0 infotainment system has received refinements to improve user experience.

Rivals in the Segment
The MG Astor continues to compete in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment, taking on rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun
Final Takeaway
By dropping the turbo-petrol engine, MG has refocused Astor’s lineup to cater to a wider audience while enhancing its value proposition. With more premium features and a simplified variant structure, the Astor remains a well-equipped and stylish contender in its class.
