It is essentially the same as the ‘Sharp’ trim, with only the extra advanced driver assists in the mix

  • ADAS comprises automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control,  blind spot detection, and lane-keeping assist.

  • Features retained from ‘Sharp’ include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, and a segment-first personal AI assistant.

  • It will get only the 1.5-litre petrol-CVT and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol-AT powertrain combinations.

  • The Astor is currently priced from Rs 9.78 lakh to Rs 16.78 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).

The MG Astor’s ‘Sharp’ trim gets optional Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which the carmaker has clarified is actually a new top-spec trim, called ‘Savvy’, and it will be introduced to the compact SUV’s lineup soon.

The Astor currently retails from Rs 9.78 lakh to Rs 16.78 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India), and it’s available in four trims: Style, Super, Smart, and Sharp.

So what will the new range-topping ‘Savvy’ offer? Well, it's identical to the ‘Sharp’, with only ADAS added to the mix. This suite of autonomous driver assists includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection, and lane-keeping/departure assist. Other key safety aids include up to six airbags, ABS+EBD, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, traction control, and hill descent control.

Features in the Astor compact SUV include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a 7-inch digital drivers display, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, rain-sensing wipers, red brake calipers (with the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol), and multiple design options for the 17-inch alloy wheels.

As for powertrains, the new trim will get 110PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 140PS 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines. The former can be paired with an 8-step CVT automatic, while the latter comes with a 6-speed automatic. There’s also an optional 6-speed manual with the NA petrol, but that won’t be available in the Astor Savvy.

The new trim will, of course, sell at a premium over the current top-spec Sharp. The MG Astor rubs shoulders with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Renault Duster, MG Hector, and the Mahindra XUV700’s five-seater variants.
