MG has been brewing up a storm in the Indian automobile sector in recent times with the launch of the Comet EV. But it seems like the storm is here to stay a little longer as the carmaker has just launched the Gloster Blackstorm edition with prices starting at Rs 40.30 lakh (ex-showroom). This new edition seems to take a page or two out of Tata’s playbook for special editions in the way the marque has employed the name and the corresponding changes that come with it. That aside, here’s everything you need to know about it:
Price Standard Gloster (ex-showroom) |
|
Super 4x2 7-seater |

Sharp 4x2 7-seater |
Rs 32.60 lakh |

The Blackstorm edition is offered in 6- and 7-seater configurations and builds on the Savvy variant. They carry a premium of Rs 1.3 lakh for both the 4x2 and 4x4 variants, in respect to the corresponding Savvy variants.
While there isn’t anything new in respect to the body contours or the exterior changes itself, it is evidently the contrasting use of black and red that differentiate it from the standard SUV. The Metal Black hue makes up most of the body with red inserts on the front lip, ORVMs, the side sills, red callipers, and on the outline of the black bumper. Even the headlights sport a dash of red, while the tailights get a smoked-black effect – giving the Gloster Blackstorm Edition seriously sinister vibes.
Oh, and ofcourse you get Blackstorm badging on the fenders that denote that this isn’t any regular Gloster – if it isn’t already apparent by the changes to the exterior.
The Gloster Blackstorm edition embodies the black in its name really neatly on the inside too. Yeah, you guessed it – the theme is black, but not all-black, thanks to the red hue on the steering wheel and in the stitching, which adds a dash of life and sportiness to the otherwise very dark cabin upholstery.
In terms of features, there aren’t any revisions really, given that the Gloster already came packing features like 12.3-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, voice recognition, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 12-way powered front seat with massage and ventilation and three-zone climate control.

Even the features making up the safety kit are abundant, with equipment like six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX mounts and a full suite of ADAS features. Its autonomous kit includes forward collision prevention, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention warning and door open warning.
The standard MG Gloster gets its puissance from a choice of two engines: 161PS/374Nm 2-litre turbo and 216PS/479Nm twin-turbo 2-litre diesel engines. Both these powertrains are paired to an 8-speed AT unit, but only the 216PS engine can be had with the new Gloster Blackstorm edition. And unlike the single turbo powertrain, this one can be paired to both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain configurations.
