The Hector Blackstorm edition seems to take a leaf out of the Tata Red Dark edition’s rule book

  • MG Hector and Hector Plus Blackstorm Edition launched at Rs 21.25 lakh

  • It is the third MG product to get the Blackstorm treatment

  • Hector Blackstorm edition is based on one-below-top Sharp Pro variant

  • Commands a premium of Rs 25,000 over the Sharp Pro variant

  • Gets all black treatment with red inserts inside-out

  • No changes in the features and powertrain department

Following the Astor and Gloster SUVs, MG has now given its all-black Blackstorm treatment to the Hector mid-size SUV. Priced at Rs 21.25 lakh, the MG Hector Blackstorm Edition is a special edition limited to the one-below-top Sharp Pro trim and is also available with the bigger Hector Plus SUV. The inspiration behind this edition can be linked to the Tata Red Dark editions, thanks to a very similar treatment. What’s changes, what’s new, let’s find out:

The Blackstorm edition is based on the one-below-top Sharp Pro variant. They carry a premium of Rs 25,000 over it.

Design

With its bold styling, the Hector is an SUV that commands immediate attention. That bold demeanor multiplies with this all-black treatment, which de-chromes (dark chrome) the grille and splashes a main layer of black with contrasting red elements. The latter can be seen on the headlight housing, ORVMs and the brake callipers. It also gets ‘Blackstorm’ badging on the front fender.

So while there are no changes to the bodystyle or the contours itself, this Blackstorm edition mingles black and red for one tastefully sinister looking MG Hector.

Interior

The Hector’s dual tone light coloured cabin wasn’t to your taste? Well, the Blackstorm edition solves that problem for you with an all black treatment yet again. And following the exterior’s contrasts, the interior too gets red accents, giving it a sporty contrast against the all-black theme.

As for the features, there aren’t any revisions really, given that the Hector already came packing features like 14-inch portrait-style infotainment screen, connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, powered tailgate, and ventilated front seats.

The safety kit too is untouched and includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, ADAS technology and electronic stability control.

The Blackstorm edition makes use of both the Hector’s engine options: 143PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 170PS 2-litre diesel engine. A 6-speed manual gearbox is available with the diesel, while the petrol gets a CVT transmission only. No manual for the turbo-petrol.

With this Blackstorm edition for the Hector, MG now has an appropriate rival to fend off competition from the Tata Dark Edition SUVs. It commands a premium of just Rs 25,000 for its services over the standard variants, and prices for the Hector now range between Rs 13.98 lakh and Rs 21.95 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The Hector Plus, meanwhile, is sold between Rs 16.99 lakh and Rs 22.67 lakh. The Hector continues to rival the Tata Harrier/Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Creta/Alcazar.
