MoRTH Extends Validity Of Vehicle Documents And Drivers’ Licenses


This is the seventh time the Ministry is extending the validity of these documents

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Department (MoRTH) has extended the validity of vehicle documents for the seventh time after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The documents which have expired since February 01, 2020, will now be treated as valid till October 31, 2021. These include:

  • Driver’s license

  • Vehicle registration certificate

  • Vehicle permits

  • Fitness certificate 

Previously, the cut-off dates for these documents were:

  • In 2020: 30th March, 9th June, 24th August, and 27th December

  • In 2021: 26th March and 17th June

In related news, the MoRTH has now released a new BH series for private users, where they can use a single registration across the country. Also, it has formalised the registration process for vintage cars more than 50 years old. And last but not least, the government will shell out Rs 26,000 crore in the next five years to help faster adoption of EVs.
