Carmakers have been pretty keen to launch new cars in 2023. We have already had multiple launches this year and just seven months of the current year have passed.
For the month of August 2023, we have two confirmed launches with another Mahindra event locked in. There are four more launches expected as well. Hence, if you are in the market looking for a new CNG car, a 7-seater MPV, a premium electric SUV, a premium SUV or new variants of the Creta/Alcazar, stay tuned.
Here’s all the car launches expected in August 2023:
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC will be launched on August 9. Mercedes will launch the car in two variants: GLC 300 (petrol), and the GLC 220d with all-wheel-drive as standard. Both engines displace two litres, and come with a 48V mild-hybrid system.
Larger than the outgoing model, the new GLC is more of an evolution with clean design than a completely new model. On the inside, the new GLC will get S Class-inspired interiors with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 11.9-inch vertical touchscreen for the infotainment. You can find more details about the new GLC in our unveiling story.

With electric vehicles gaining in popularity, Audi is introducing its Q8 e-tron in India. It is nothing but the facelift of the e-tron SUV with a new name. Like before, the Q8 e-tron will be offered in both SUV and Sportback styles.
Audi is offering this electric SUV with two battery sizes. The Q8 e-tron 55 gets a 95kWh battery with 339PS and 664Nm. The claimed battery range is 491km for the SUV and 505km for the Sportback. Meanwhile the 55 trim comes with a 114kWh battery with 408PS and 664Nm. The range offered is 582km and 600km for the SUV and Sportback respectively.
With CNG vehicles rising in sales, Tata wants a piece of the pie as well. Tata launched its “twin cylinder” technology with the Altroz iCNG and will soon introduce the same in the Punch.
The Punch CNG will offer a more practical boot space than rivals thanks to its innovative cylinder setup. Also, along with the introduction of the CNG powertrain, Tata could take it as an opportunity to introduce new features such as a sunroof.
Tata will offer a 1.2-litre triple-cylinder NA petrol motor with this car. It develops 84.8PS/113Nm in petrol mode and 76PS/97Nm in CNG mode. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Tata Punch CNG was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo.
Citroen’s fourth launch is expected to be the C3 Aircross, which is a compact SUV that features both 5- and 7-seat layouts. The last row of seats will be removable to liberate more boot space.
The C3 Aircross is the third product based on the C-Cubed platform. It will be offered with the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor. In the C3, this engine develops 110PS and 190Nm. Citroen could retune this for the C3 Aircross for more power. A 6-speed manual gearbox is expected at launch while the French carmaker could offer an automatic option at a later stage.
Toyota already offers the Rumion MPV in the South African market. This is nothing but an Ertiga with different styling touches and all-black interiors. Powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, the Rumion develops 101.5PS and 137Nm. The engine should be paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Mahindra has teased a new pick-up truck concept likely to be based on the new Scorpio N. The event for the same is scheduled on August 15, in South Africa.
While the pick-up/lifestyle segment is still at a nascent stage in India, they are very popular in South Africa and even Australia/New Zealand.
Mahindra already sells the Scorpio Getaway in the aforementioned markets under the Goa/Pik-Up brands. However, the company might be looking at offering a newer version to enable existing customers an upgrade path as well as a wider choice.
More details are awaited as the Indian carmaker released a teaser video titled “Global Pik Up Vision.” It showcased a sunroof, vertical tail lamps, and large tyres.
Hyundai is gearing up to launch the Adventure Editions of the popular Creta and Alcazar SUVs. These are expected to be just cosmetic improvements over the standard models.
The Korean carmaker could offer a new Ranger Khaki colour option on both, along with all-black elements like the bumper trims, window garnishes, and roof rails. The interior could get a black theme with special stitching, and Adventure Edition badges and logos on headrests.
There will be no mechanical changes and Hyundai might launch the Adventure Edition on multiple variants.
Amongst these, the Mercedes and the Audi are confirmed launches, but the Tata, Citroen and Toyota offerings can be launched anytime. Interestingly, the Mahindra event might reveal more about the pickup, and the Hyundai twins’ Adventure Editions are expected to offer more variety to customers. Do let us know in the comments which amongst these takes your fancy.
