Volkswagen has finally introduced the new variants for the GT Line trims of the Virtus sedan and Taigun compact SUV. Not only do these new variants bring more powertrain options, they also pack new and sportier looking colour options for both. Prices for the new trims start from Rs 16.80 lakh and Rs 16.90 lakh for the Taigun and Virtus, respectively. Let’s see a model-wise detailed overview:
The VW Taigun has received two new variants in the form of the entry-level GT trim called GT DSG, while its top-spec GT Plus trim now gets the option of a manual transmission through the new GT Plus MT variant.
Now that’s not all that’s new for the Taigun, as it has also received a new GT Edge Limited Collection, which builds on the GT Plus variants and feature two new hue options for the compact SUV - Deep Black Pearl and Carbon Steel Grey Matte - both available with either of its transmission options. Here’s a full price list for its new variants:

The VW Virtus’s peppy 1.5-litre engine and its competent chassis and suspension setup made for a perfect driver’s car. But still, there was just that one thing missing for it to be the ideal engaging enthusiast car - a manual gearbox. VW has finally addressed that issue in the form of a new GT Plus MT variant, which sits below its top-spec GT Plus DSG variant. In the process, it also gets a new sinister looking Deep Black Pearl colour option, just like the one added to the Taigun’s colour palette.

By adding the manual transmission option to its 1.5-litre powertrain, VW has drastically dropped the entry point to that engine option, by Rs 1.67 lakh to be precise.
Now both the Virtus and Taigun’s GT Edge Limited Collection variants are made to order and will be manufactured based on customer bookings, which can only be done via the marque’s website. Deliveries for the same will commence from July onwards.

There are no other changes to the existing variants and their corresponding powertrain options as both of them continue with the 115PS/178Nm 1-litre turbo-petrol and 150PS/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options. A 6-speed manual is standard throughout the range. The 1-litre unit can be had with a torque convertor automatic, while the 7-speed DSG is for the 1.5-litre motor only.
