Fourth-Gen Nissan X-Trail officially teased showcasing its feature rich interiors.
The X-Trail in its fourth gen avatar will be brought in as a CBU, possibly in limited numbers.
Internationally the Nissan X-Trail gets both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive drivetrain options.
The expected 1.5-litre mild-hybrid powertrain is paired to a 12V battery.
Features teased include a large 12.3-inch infotainment system, digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charger.
Nissan is bringing back the X-Trail moniker to India after over a decade, and has been aggressively teasing it on social media handles ahead of its imminent launch. The latest teaser videos give a glimpse of its cabin and some of its premium features. Let's delve down more and decipher all that can be confirmed through the teased videos.
At a first glance, it can be made out that the Nissan X-Trail will have an all-black cabin theme with contrasting upholstery and brushed metal inserts in the dashboard and central console.
A large floating touchscreen infotainment screen was spotted (likely to be a 12.3-inch unit), which will have wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Along with this, a large digital driver’s display can also be noticed (again to be of the similar 12.3-inch size).
Furthermore, the teaser video shows a large panoramic sunroof on-board. The central console was seen with a split opening central armrest with storage, a drive mode selector, electronic parking brake with auto-hold assist button, a wireless charger and a toggle shifter for the gearbox (most likely to be an 8-speed automatic transmission).
The teaser also gives a glimpse of the third row, hinting that the India-spec X-Trail will be a 7-seater SUV.
The Nissan X-Trail is the Japanese automaker’s premium full-size family SUV, which is available overseas in a five or seven seat configuration. The fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail is offered in two variants in the international markets.
The new X-Trail features a more contoured shape and chiseled design that replaces the previous boxy silhouette. All the cuts, creases and body lines give this recent iteration a more polished appearance. With its DRLs and the newest V-shaped grille design, and a split headlamp layout, the Nissan X-Trail will look distinctive to anything else rolling on our roads.
Its high window lines and prominent fender haunches give the side profile a robust appearance. It will directly compete with the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian in the Indian market, as its overall dimensions measure 4680 mm in length, 1840 mm in width, 1725 mm in height, and 2705 mm in wheelbase.
The fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail's cabin blends style and functionality. Modern, sleek displays and soft-touch materials are few notable characteristics. Apart from the aforementioned infotainment screen and a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the global-spec X-Trail also gets a sizable 10.8-inch heads-up display (HUD) that improves driving convenience.
The overall appeal of the Nissan X-Trail is further enhanced by its comfort and convenience features. These niceties include wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, heated and powered front seats with memory function (Indian models most likely get seat ventilation), a premium 10-speaker Bose surround sound system, three-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.
The international-spec Nissan X-Trail is exceptionally well-equipped for safety. The kit includes electronic stability control, traction control, seven airbags, and ABS with EBD as standard. Additional safety features are a 360-degree surround-view camera with front and rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, and hill-hold assist. The X-Trail also offers ADAS technologies such as forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, along with ISOFIX child seat mounts.
How many of these features and safety equipment will be offered in the India-spec model remains to be seen.
Though any official announcements haven't been made yet, it is pretty soon to speculate which powertrain options will be available with the India bound models.
For international markets, the Nissan X-Trail gets a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine paired with a strong-hybrid system, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is available in two drivetrain configurations: two-wheel drive, delivering 204 PS and 330 Nm, and an all-wheel drive, offering 213 PS and 495 Nm. The AWD variants also feature multiple driving modes, including Normal, Sport, Eco, Off-road, and Snow Mode. It is in time that we will get to know what will be offered for the Indian market. Apart from the strong-hybrid powertrain, it also gets a 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit mated to a two wheel drivetrain producing 163 PS and 300 Nm.
As it is anticipated to be a fully-imported vehicle (CBU), the Nissan X-Trail is expected to cost north of Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). This puts it in a competitive position against other premium SUVs including the Citroen C5 Aircross, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Meridian, and Skoda Kodiaq.
