Ola Electric had recently launched their Gen 3 platform in India, and it brought a lot of changes. The scooters in the Gen3 lineup have better range, more speed and a ton of other changes. Here’s a detailed breakdown of everything that’s new.
New Lineup
The Ola S1 Gen 3 lineup consists of 4 new scooters: the Ola S1 X+, the S1 X, the Ola S1 Pro and the Ola S1 Pro+. Surprisingly the Ola S1 Air has been removed from the new lineup, and the Ola S1 X+ is now offered as the mid-spec variant. The scooters are offered in a wide range of battery packs as well.

Increased Range
One of the interesting changes that the Gen 3 platform has brought is the structurally integrated battery packs, which are also a lot more efficient. The brand claims that they have managed to increase the scooter’s ranges by 20 percent.

Along with this, the new Pro+ variant with the 5.3kWh battery pack uses indigenously developed Bharat cell. This new cell is a lot more energy dense than the ones that are already used on other Ola scooters. Overall, the claimed ranges sound impressive and will definitely go a long way in reducing range anxiety.
New Motor & Transmission
Now all the scooters in the lineup get a mid-mounted motor setup, with a chain drive transmission. The new chain drive transmission has also got specially lubricated o-rings which have helped in improving efficiency and also in reducing the overall noise levels.
With the new motor and transmission, the brand claims this has helped in improving the scooter’s performance overall. Overall, the usage of a chain-drive transmission is a welcome change. Chain drives are a lot more reliable when compared to belt drive transmission and also have a longer life span.
Dual Channel ABS & Brake-By-Wire
On the Ola S1 Pro+, the brand has introduced dual-channel ABS, which will improve the overall safety when riding by preventing the wheels from locking up under hard braking.

Another interesting new feature is the addition of a brake-by-wire system. This system dynamically modulates braking type, between regen and mechanical. This goes a long way in helping preserve the brake pads while at the same time improving braking performance.
More Efficient Electronics Package
The brand has also made some changes to the electronic package. This includes the reduction of the number of integrated boards that are used to offer the scooter’s features. The second generation S1 lineup had 3 integrated boards. Gen 3 has reduced this to just one. This will reduce the overall number of parts, thus improving reliability and performance, while also reducing the overall cost. Overall, with this generation 3 update, the Ola S1 lineup looks quite good and has gotten a much needed improvement in terms of features and performance.
