You’ll be able to drive Porsche’s first purely virtual EV on the PS4 and PS5 in March 2022

Porsche has revealed the Vision GT electric race car for the upcoming Sony Playstation video game, Gran Turismo 7. It’s the first purely digital sports car from the carmaker, and you’ll be able to play it on the PS4 and PS5 when the game is released in March 2022.

The virtual EV features various design cues from real-life Porsches. Its oversized wheels look inspired by the Taycan electric sports sedan, and the overall proportions are reminiscent of low, wide, mid-engined Porsche cars. At the rear, the Vision GT features 911-esque thin connected LED tail lamps. The two bumps behind the cabin are likely derived from the Carrera GT sports car from the early 2000s. We hope a few of these design touches could make it to real-life production models.

Inside, the Vision GT looks racy and features a curved digital driver’s display that’s reminiscent of the Taycan. The steering that looks straight out of a rally-spec car. Keen-eyed gamers will also notice the presence of a fire extinguisher that’s present in almost all real-world race cars. The interior is upholstered in life-like sustainable materials, with several bits made of carbon fibre and titanium.

This isn’t the first time that a Porsche has featured in the Gran Turismo video game. In 2017, Gran Turismo Sport had several modern 911 variants (RSR, GT3, GT3 RS), and iconic Porsches such as the 1950s 356 A and the ‘81 911 Turbo. In addition, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, 919 Hybrid and 2019 Taycan Turbo S were also featured in Gran Turismo Sport.

Porsche had partnered with Polyphony Digital, the creator of Gran Turismo, to replicate its real-life sports cars in a virtual format. The in-game dynamics and driving manners of each of these vehicles have been fine-tuned by Porsche engineers and designers.

All these models are set to make it to Grand Turismo 7, and we’ll also see the Carrera GT and a few more Porsches in the latest iteration of the game. The Vision Gran Turismo, however, is the only Porsche that has never existed outside of the game.
