The sub-500cc performance motorcycle segment is getting a revamp this year with a slew of launches in the recent couple of months and with more to follow soon. Among them is the upcoming Aprilia RS440, which has been spied again in India.
The bike looks production-ready, similar to the one spotted abroad last month. The ergonomics are clearly visible - a slightly forward-leant stance with raised clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs. The posture is a lot like the one on the KTM RC 390. The RS440 is built on a twin-spar frame, and gets an underbelly exhaust and split seats, which were also spotted in the previous round of spy shots.
It will most likely get a high-revving 440cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine along with features like ride-by-wire, traction control, cornering ABS and a quickshifter. It also gets premium hardware like a USD fork and monoshock setup, aluminium swingarm, lightweight alloy wheels, discs at both ends with a radial front brake caliper.
The twin-LED headlight setup is pretty sleek. This and the fairing design makes the bike look a lot like a scaled-down Aprilia RS660. It is expected to get a TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity. The test mule also gets a massive, gaudy saree guard, which reminds us a lot about the ones on Kawasaki bikes.
The Aprilia RS440 is expected to be launched in India by April 2024 and its price tag will likely be around the Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. Its rivals will be the KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400.
