Earlier, we have reported that Toyota is working on the rebadged version of the Fronx, which is expected to go on sale in 2024. Now, our sources have given us a clue that the model is set to be introduced in the first quarter next year. This will mark Toyota’s re-entry into the sub-4 metre SUV segment after the Urban Cruiser (rebadged Brezza) was discontinued.
It must be noted that Toyota earlier trademarked the Taisor name in India, which could be used for this particular model. Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming model:
Considering that this is a shared product between the two carmakers, Toyota's version is expected to undergo minor design changes to help it distinguish from the Fronx. These include tweaks to the grille, bumpers, DRL insignias, tail lamps, and alloy wheels. Apart from that, the Fronx-based Toyota crossover SUV is anticipated to maintain similarity to the donor car.
Toyota’s upcoming crossover SUV’s dashboard is likely to mirror the one of the Maruti Fronx, but with potential changes confined to the color scheme and upholstery.
Expected amenities include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with features like a heads-up display, coloured multi-info display, wireless phone charger, cruise control, and automatic climate control.
Safety features should include up to six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), hill-hold assist, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and ABS with EBD.

Toyota's upcoming crossover SUV is expected to share the same engine options as the Fronx. The Maruti crossover currently gets a 89PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 100PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine options. A 5-speed manual is standard while automatic options include a 5-speed AMT for the NA petrol and 6-speed torque converter for the turbo-petrol unit.

We also hope Toyota offers the CNG variant with the 1.2-litre engine producing 77.5PS and 98.5Nm in CNG mode, mated with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Toyota crossover SUV, based on the Fronx, is likely to have a pricing similar to the Fronx, which starts at Rs 7.47 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned in the subcompact SUV segment, it will rival the Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, Hyundai Exter, and the Maruti Brezza.
