The LC300 made its global debut in 2021 and has finally made its way to India

  • Land Cruiser 300 debuts at Auto Expo.
  • Based on a new GA-F platform, is 200kg lighter than before.
  • Looks butch and gets an upmarket cabin.
  • Offered with petrol and diesel engines in international markets.

If the Mahindra Scorpio is the pehalwan in the sea of similarly priced compact SUVs, the Land Cruiser 300 (LC300) gets the same title in its respective segment. Finally, after a long wait since its unveiling in 2021, we get to see the latest iteration of the Land Cruiser in India, in its flesh, at Auto Expo 2023.

The latest version of the SUV is built on the carmaker’s new GA-F body-on-frame platform and is 200kg lighter than before! But does it like its lost weight? Not really, as the new Land Cruiser looks macho and huge, giving it a mighty presence on the show floor.

Adding more muscle to its design are the oversized elements like the grille and alloys, which are simply screaming for attention. Despite the SUV’s overall boxy silhouette, Toyota says all the panels have been redesigned for this SUV.

Haul yourself inside the cabin and you’d clearly know that the main focus has been here rather than on the outside. It’s much more upmarket and premium here than earlier, with a nice, large, floating infotainment touchscreen and plenty of soft-touch materials. The cabin has also a tinge of old fashioned elements we miss in new age cars like analogue dials and chunky buttons and knobs.

It’s also feature-loaded, with highlights including four-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, keyless entry with push-button start and a coloured multi-info display. The SUV also comes with a pre-collision system, emergency steering and crash avoidance, lane-keeping assist and electronic stability control.
