TVS’ racing arm, TVS Racing, has been proactive in the Indian motorsports scene for decades. And now, TVS Racing is back with the 8th edition of the TVS Young Media Racer Program (YMRP), through which the manufacturer gives an opportunity to young automotive journalists to experience the thrill and excitement of racing, and more importantly learn to become a better rider, in a safe environment.
The YMRP program was started in 2017. The selection round for the 8th edition of YMRP took place at the Madras International Circuit (MIC) on May 24, 2024. All participants from the media attended a full-day Level 1 training program from the TVS Racing Academy. This includes both theory and practical sessions led by TVS Racing champions, including multiple championship winners Jagan Kumar and KY Ahmed.
Participants rode the race-spec TVS Apache RTR 200 4V in the media category, and the selected riders will continue with the same bike throughout the entire season. A total of 39 journalists from all around the country participated, out of which the top 16 fastest riders have qualified for the next round. And one of our riders, Sahil Siddiqui, from our sister publication BikeDekho, qualified.
The 16 selected racers from the media will now compete in the prestigious TVS India One Make Championship's Young Media Racer category, which will be organised alongside the Indian National Motorcycle Championship. TVS says this program has improved the racing skills of more than 200 journalists, some of whom now participate in various racing formats, over the years.

TVS has always ensured the riders in the program are fully protected with leather racing suits, ECE-certified helmets, full-gauntlet gloves and leather riding boots. But this time around, TVS has enhanced riders' safety even further by offering the KYT NZ race carbon fibre helmets which are FIM homologated and ECE 22.06 certified. Here is what the certification means. The helmets also featured aerodynamic spoilers and winglets.
Along with the helmets, TVS also provided the riders with Alpinestars Tech Air 5 motorcycle airbag vests with an active electronic system that features six integrated sensors with three gyroscopes and three accelerometers. In case of a crash, it deploys within 30 milliseconds. This is a fantastic initiative as riders can push themselves and the bike to the limits, safely, thanks to the added safety net.
