The Japanese two-wheeler giant might launch its first electric scooter in India.
[UPDATE: Contrary to what we had speculated earlier, a petrol powered scooter, called the Suzuki Avenis has been launched in India. Check out our launch report for more details on this sporty scooter.]

It's no secret that Suzuki is working on an electric scooter, and this doesn't come as a surprise, considering more mainstream manufacturers are increasingly kickstarting their EV journey in India. The bike maker has sent us an invite for an upcoming new launch, and we think it could be the Suzuki Burgman Electric, set to arrive on November 18.

As the name suggests, the e-scooter will be based on the popular maxi-scooter, and we spotted it undergoing ARAI testing in Pune. Besides the design, the Suzuki Burgman Electric will also share its underpinnings with its ICE sibling.

The company has been tight-lipped about the specs, but we reckon it will be powered by a 4-4.5kW motor, which should be good for a top speed of around 70-80kmph and a realistic range of about 70-90km. What remains to be seen is whether it will get a swappable battery or a fixed unit, but we feel it could be the latter.

There are two benefits of the Suzuki Burgman Electric being based on an existing platform -- less development time and reduced cost. We expect it to be priced from around Rs 1.10 to 1.20 lakh, and it will compete with the TVS iQube, Ather 450, Bajaj Chetak, and the Ola S1.
