Tata Motors has just launched the Altroz Racer, the sportier version of the hatchback. Apart from its sportier looks and more powerful engine, the Racer also comes packing in a host of new features. Alongside, Tata Motors has also updated the standard Altroz with the new kit that was introduced in the Racer.
In this report, we are going to take a look at the differences and similarities between the standard Altroz and Altroz Racer.
In terms of the overall design, both cars are nearly identical. But the Altroz Racer gets a handful of elements that help it stand out from the standard car. The most obvious one is the dual-tone scheme, where the black finish extends all the way to the hood. You will also notice that the Racer gets white strips with a checkered flag on the roof to add to its sportiness.
That said, you don’t get all the colour options with the Racer offered with the regular Altroz. Check out both the car’s available colour options here:

Other distinguishing touches for the Altroz Racer over the standard car include a darker theme for the logo and alloys. Lastly, it gets a ‘RACER’ badge on the front fender to denote you’re driving the sportier Altroz.
Once again, the overall dashboard layout and design remains the same between both the cars. But the standard car’s cabin is finished in a black / grey theme with blue ambient lighting. The Racer, on the other hand, gets an all-black cabin with sportier orange highlights and ambient lighting.
Keen eyed viewers will also notice that the Altroz Racer’s gear knob has been lifted off from the Nexon.
Tata has introduced a handful of new features in the entire Altroz lineup, including a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera and six airbags. The Racer goes even one step further and gets ventilated front seats.
Bits such as the automatic climate control, an 8-speaker Harman / Kardon sound system, keyless entry with push button start, cruise control, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and ABS with EBD have all been retained from before.
The Altroz Racer is offered with a sole Nexon-sourced 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine developing 120 PS and 170 Nm. It’s offered with just a 6-speed manual transmission. Do note that this is the only turbo-petrol Altroz you can buy as the i-Turbo variant has now been discontinued.
Meanwhile, the standard Altroz comes with three options: a 88PS 1.2-litre petrol, a 73.5PS 1.2-litre CNG and a 90PS 1.5-litre diesel engine. A 5-speed manual transmission is offered as standard, while the petrol engine can be opted with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic as well.
The standard Tata Altroz is priced from Rs 6.64 lakh to Rs 10.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, if you want the Racer, its prices range from Rs 9.49 lakh to Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
The standard car locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Hyundai i20. Meanwhile, the Racer locks horns with the Hyundai i20 N Line.
