For similar money, one is offering you all the bells and whistles you can get, while the other will make you compromise on a few features for a standout design

Curvv vs Nexon

In recent years, Tata has launched many new mass market cars and also updated their existing models from time to time. The most recent launch from the carmaker is the Curvv ICE, which is a SUV-coupe positioned in a segment above the popular Nexon. However, the prices of certain variants of these SUVs overlap with each other, which makes them comparable. To keep things fair, we have compared the top-spec variant of Nexon with the similarly priced mid-spec variant of the Curvv.

For similar money, let’s find out which SUV should you go for:

Nexon Top-spec vs Curvv Mid-spec: Price

Tata Curvv Creative S*

Tata Nexon Fearless+ S

Price (ex-showroom)

Rs 12.7 lakh to Rs 15.7  lakh

Rs 13.6 lakh to Rs 15.6 lakh

* Prices of the Tata Curvv are introductory

While there is a substantial difference between the entry-level prices of the respective petrol manual variants, there is a difference of only Rs 10,000 between the diesel automatic ones.

A point to note here is that the Nexon also gets a dark edition which comes at a premium of Rs 20,000.

Tata Nexon vs Curvv: Design And Dimensions

Both Curvv and Nexon feature modern design elements like LED DRLs, LED headlamps and connected LED tail lamps. However, the Curvv gets connected DRLs which look more upmarket. The Curvv has a more unique coupe design thanks to its sloping roofline and it also gets flush door handles. The Nexon on the other hand, gets a conventional silhouette with regular door handles, but that’s not bad either. Let’s take a look at their dimensions:

The Curvv which is from a segment above, is the longer SUV here and also gets a larger wheelbase. However, in terms of width and height there is hardly any difference. The parameter where the Curvv stands out is the boot space which is much more than what you get with the Nexon. So, if you are someone whose priority is going for longer journeys, you might need the extra boot space which the Curvv offers.

  • You get the option of a 6-speed manual which is available with both the SUVs.

  • The Curvv gets a 7-speed DCT with both the above-mentioned engines.

  • The petrol Nexon comes with a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed AMT, while the diesel Nexon comes with the 6-speed AMT only.

  • The Curvv also gets a more potent 1.2-litre TGDi (direct injection) turbo-petrol, but that can be had with the 6-speed manual only.

Verdict

The mid-spec variant of the Tata Curvv and the top-spec variant of the Nexon are both great options to consider, but at the same time they have their own strengths and weaknesses. While you won’t really go wrong with either of them, there are compromises that you will have to make on either side.

 Tata Curvv

The Curvv is the one to consider if you want a more attractive looking SUV with a design that is not common on our roads. It also provides a larger boot space making it better suited for longer journeys. The SUV-coupe comes with a new more powerful petrol engine which is not available with the Nexon. However, you will have to make a compromise in terms of features, and if you are willing to let go of a couple of these extra comforts and niceties, then you can opt for the Curvv.

 Tata Nexon

The Nexon on the other hand, would make a good buy if you are in the market looking for an SUV that is loaded to the brim with features and has a more conventional design language. But there are compromises with the Nexon as well and that means the final decision should be made based on your needs and requirements.

Let us know in the comments below which SUV you would pick. And why?
