With the rapidly expanding EV space in India, Tata Motors has had the early mover advantage by penetrating into the EV market with an extensive line-up of affordable electric vehicles in its portfolio. In its FY 2023-24 results, Tata stated that it witnessed it sold nearly 74,000 EVs (wholesale) during the previous financial year, enjoying a year-on-year increase of nearly 48 percent.
Tata started off 2024 with the launch of its first product based on its all-new Acti.EV platform, the Punch EV. This electric micro-SUV with a claimed range of over 400 km, joins the rest of the EV models in the lineup – remains a dominant manufacturer with a wide accessible range of EVs like the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Nexon EV, Punch EV and Xpre-T. Tata sold more than 73,844 units of its electric vehicles which is a staggering 47.5 percent increment in comparison to the 50,077 units sold in the previous year.
To complement the high volumes of sales, Tata has also expanded its charging infrastructure by introducing 4,751 new charging stations across the country. Adding to it, Tata has already produced more than 1,50,000 EVs for the Indian market so far.
Similarly, the internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles also experienced a 6 percent growth over last year. Tata also shared that this was the third consecutive year of highest‑ever sales volumes with 5,73,541 units sold last year.
Additionally, Tata cars constitute nearly 14.3 percent of the overall passenger vehicle market share. Tata has also expanded its dealer network across the country and now has over 1456 dealerships in its blanket.
Tata is further going to expand its EV lineup by introducing the upcoming Curvv EV, Harrier EV, and Safari EV. We expect sales to further boost when these cars are launched in India.
