Tata's sales in February 2024 exceeded Hyundai's by around 1,000 vehicles.
Year-over-year (YoY) sales for the Indian brand increased by about 20 percent.
With around 7,000 vehicles sold, Tata's EV line accounted for a sizable portion of its total automobile sales and climbed by 30 percent year over year.
Conversely, in February 2024, Hyundai reported a YoY growth of over seven percent.
If you have been following up with the Indian auto sales in recent years, you have probably noticed that Tata Motors, which often ranks third on brand-wise sales charts, has been closing the gap on Hyundai, which has held the second-place position for decades. In terms of monthly sales, the Indian automaker has even surpassed the Korean company a few times in the past few years. It has only occurred four times in the history of automobile sales, and it has happened again in February 2024.

The aforementioned data makes it evident that Tata, the nation's top manufacturer of electric vehicles, contributes significantly to monthly sales of EVs. Tata's advantage over its Korean competitor can also be attributed to recent introductions such as the Punch EV and the redesigned Nexon EV. Even its lineup of internal combustion engines (ICEs) is in high demand; cars like the Nexon and Punch often make it onto the list of the top 10 best-selling vehicles each month.
Conversely, Hyundai has stated that it sold more than 15,000 facelifted Cretas overall in February 2024, the greatest monthly sales total for the brand since it was launched in 2015. With average sales of well over 5,000 units each month, the Exter and Venue pair are expected to be another potent volume grabber for the Korean brand. Despite being noteworthy, their figures are not as high as those of its Tata competitors, the Punch and Nexon, respectively.
Tata is preparing an electric SUV attack for the remainder of the year, which will comprise the Curvv and Harrier EVs, in addition to having previously released the Punch EV in January 2024. Conversely, Hyundai is getting ready to introduce the Creta N Line on March 11. Other Hyundai vehicles anticipated to arrive in India in 2024 include the Ioniq 6 and the redesigned Alcazar.
Given Tata's greater selection of mass-market SUV products and the fact that both automakers are aiming to increase their production capacity, we predict it will not be long until the Indian automaker regularly holds the second-place slot in Indian monthly vehicle sales.
