Tata Punch facelift (ICE) spied testing ahead of launch in 2025
Will get design cues similar to Tata’s recent design language, with sleek LED DRLs
Interiors expected to get more feature rich with additional equipment.
The Punch is currently available in petrol powertrain and with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
Tata has been readying the Punch facelift with a launch expected to take place in late 2025. Tata had earlier tweaked the looks of the Punch EV, and is in works to give the ICE (internal combustion engined) models a midlife makeover as well. As a result, a heavily camouflaged test mule was spotted testing on roads recently, which carried out changes both inside out. In this story, we decipher what all new things we can spot:
The Tata Punch facelift will carry design changes throughout to make it distinct from the current models and its EV counterpart, without the EV- specific elements like an enclosed grille. Though the spied images are limited and do not provide a 360 degree view of the car, we anticipate the front fascia to carry Tata’s new design language with the signature connected LED DRLs running across the width of the car. Unlike the Punch EV, the charging port up front will make way for a redesigned grill for the ICE facelift model. Further, it is anticipated to get an all- LED headlamp and fog lamp setup as found in its EV counterpart.
On viewing it from the side profile, the overall silhouette remains unchanged, and while the test mule sports the same alloys, we expect it to get redesigned alloy wheels upon launch. The back retains the similar looking design with the same taillights.
Since the test mule spotted was under heavy camouflage, not much of the interior details can be deciphered, but the overall styling is expected to be the same. Changes will come in the form of new equipment and we can spot what looks like a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system. It could additionally get ventilated front seats and a digital driver’s display.
Tata entered the micro-SUV segment back in 2021 with the Punch, and has been selling it in huge numbers since then. The new segment opened up opportunities for the Indian automaker to further launch the Punch EV, Tata’s first EV to be based on the Acti.ev platform.
Together, the Punch EV and ICE models topped the sales chart last month. The Tata Punch is a 5-seater micro SUV which is 1,742 mm wide, 1,615 mm tall, 3,827 mm long, with a ground clearance of 187 mm, and its wheelbase measures 2,445 mm.
The Tata Punch’s features list includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker premium Harman sound system, cooled glove box, a single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control unit, auto projector headlamps with LED DRLs, fog lamps with cornering functionality, rain-sensing wipers, rear defogger with washer and wiper, and cruise control.
On the safety front, the Tata Punch comes equipped with two airbags, ABS and EBD standard across the trims along with electronic stability control. Furthermore, it is equipped with a reverse parking camera with sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The facelifted Punch is expected to get 6-airbags as standard upon launch and we expect more safety tech like a 360 degree surround view camera with front parking sensors to be offered as well.
The Tata Punch gets powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which churns out 88 PS and 115 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. It also gets the option of a factory fitted CNG powertrain which can be had with the 5-speed manual transmission, and produces 73.5 PS and 103 Nm.
We expect the facelifted Punch to retain these powertrain options along with introducing the AMT for the CNG powertrain (as found in the Tiago and Tigor i-CNG models) to further increase its appeal.
The Tata Punch retails from Rs 6.13 lakh to Rs 10.20 lakh (ex-showroom) and rivals other micro-SUVs in the segment like the Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. We expect the facelifted Punch to carry a slight increase in pricing upon launch.
