We’ve already comprehensively covered what’s new on Tata’s Red Dark edition SUVs on previous accounts, the details of which can be found here. Now that the special edition models have been revealed officially, a few more details have surfaced. The dark black hue is the prominent exterior shade and there are red inserts on the grille and callipers to add a bit of contrast.
There’s Dark badging embossed in red colour on the fenders, and there’s a whole lotta red inside as well. The dashboard is finished in a Steel Black hue, while the seat upholstery is now Carnelian Red in colour. Even the grab handles get the red treatment in the Red Dark edition models.
As for features, there’s a brand new 10.25-inch infotainment system that replaces the smaller unit offered on the standard Harrier and Safari SUVs and there’s even a fully digital seven-inch instrument cluster along with a 360-degree camera, powered driver seats with memory function. But, the biggest addition of all has to be ADAS which is a first on any Tata car. The suite comprises a total of 10 features including auto-emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot detection, rear collision warning, and high beam assist, but doesn’t get adaptive cruise control. The Safari further boasts a mood lighting integrated within the sunroof and a four-way powered passenger seat.
No changes here as both the SUVs continue with their 170PS 2-litre diesel engine. However, this powertrain has now been updated to meet the upcoming RDE norms that will come into play after the BS VI phase-2 mandates in April. Both are geared using a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Red Dark edition joins the broad range of special editions that Tata offers currently, but is the most premium of the lot as prices for the Harrier and Safari’s (six-seater) Red Dark Editions are priced at Rs 21.77 lakh and Rs 22.61 lakh, respectively; making it the most expensive edition of the two respective SUVs. The new features offered on the Red Dark editions of the two SUVs will made made available on their standard iterations very soon as bookings for the 2023 model year units (MY23) are already underway.
