The Tata Tiago EV is fresh off the bat as the Indian firm launched the electric hatchback with introductory prices of Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It dethrones its cousin, the Tigor EV, as the most affordable EV in the country, undercutting it by Rs 4 lakh.
Here are all the nitty-gritty of the EV detailed in 10 images:
The first thing that grabs your attention is the blue line that runs parallel to the bonnet lip with the closed off grille. You also get blue inserts on the fog lamp housing that flank the closed airdam with a tri-arrow pattern.
From the side, the EV-specific wheel covers are the only significant change. You also get EV badging on the fenders.
The rear of the Tata Tiago EV is untouched in terms of design changes apart from the EV suffix in the model’s wordmark.
The overall cabin layout of the EV is similar to the standard Tiago. There are splashes of blue inserts in some places to remind you that it’s not a standard IC vehicle.
In order to up the premium quota, Tata has upgraded the seats to leatherette finished in white, borrowed from the Nexon EV, that contrast the black dashboard.
New creature comfort and safety features like cruise control, connected car tech, hill-hold assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) have been added to the list.
The electric hatchback can be specced in five shades: Teal Blue, Daytona Grey, Pristine White, Midnight Plum and Tropical Mist.
The Tiago EV gets the same Ziptron technology found in the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. There are two powertrain options - a 61PS electric motor making 105Nm teamed to a 19kWh battery and offering a range of 250km; and a 75PS motor delivering 114Nm, drawing juice from a 24kWh battery with a range of 315km.
Charging options include a 3.3kW AC charger and a 7.2kW AC fast charger. The latter can only be had with the XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux trims for a premium of Rs 50,000. DC fast charging can add a range of 110km in just 30 minutes of plug-in time. It also gets adjustable regenerative braking that’s not present in the Tigor EV currently.
Tata has priced the Tiago EV between Rs 8.49 lakh and Rs 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom). These are introductory prices applicable for the first 10,000 bookings that will commence on October 10. Deliveries for the EV will begin from January 2023.
