Production of Mahindra Scorpio N’s lower variants to begin by end of February.
Customers should get deliveries of their vehicle soon after.
Mahindra had only been focussing on the Z8L trims of the SUV till now.
Strong demand for Scorpio Classic as well.
Scorpio N’s pricing ranges between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 24.05 lakh (ex-showroom).
Deliveries for the Mahindra Scorpio N have been going on since late September 2022. But still, most of the customers who booked the lower variants of the SUV haven’t received their respective keys, and that’s because those specific variants were not being manufactured in the first place. But the good news is that the production for the lower variants is now set to begin by February-end, meaning that customers will start receiving their long-awaited vehicle in the coming days.
Why was there such a huge delay in the first place? - some would ask. That’s down to Mahindra not being able to depict the demand curve accurately. Apparently, they took learnings from the XUV700’s booking trend, the majority of orders for which were for the top-end; something that they didn’t expect for their ladder frame SUV. So, for the Scorpio N, Mahindra decided to prioritise production and deliveries of the Z8L variants which led to huge orders piling up for the lower variants – also something that they didn’t quite foresee – and had a good amount of takers.

As a result, Mahindra also had to deal with about 10% cancellations, because the waiting periods were just out of bounds. This is what Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Mahindra, had to say in Mahindra’s investor meeting: “Since Scorpio-N we basically said let us prioritise the Z8L which is the highest version of Scorpio-N first so we have actually only produced that for the first 2.5 months, 3 months so we cleared a lot of that waiting period because we just produced the high end. In the process of that what happened is people who booked some of the lower-end versions then their wait time has gone up beyond the comfort zone so we have had some cancellations around that, but as soon as we start the production of that which would be around now towards the end of Feb we would expect that momentum to come back.”
He also reiterated that the Scorpio Classic has been receiving a strong influx of orders, surpassing the numbers that the SUV was doing in its previous avatar. But still, given that the production for the lower variants of the Scorpio N will finally start, expect your keys to be in your hand, if you’re one of those waiting for the vehicle, that is.
