Tata Altroz Racer confirmed for a launch.
Gets minor cosmetic changes inside and out.
Power comes from Nexon’s 120PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a six-speed manual.
Packs a larger infotainment system, a seven-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats and a sunroof as well.
The hatch will also get a boost in safety, thanks to the addition of six airbags.
Likely to carry a price premium over its i-Turbo variants.
Guess what? Tata has confirmed that the Altroz Racer is in the pipeline in the most unusual of ways. Unlike the usual trend in which a carmaker releases a press kit or a post on its social media platforms to confirm a launch, the Altroz Racer was confirmed through a reply to one of the comments on its social media account.

This was done by Tata’s official Altroz handle, so the news should be as legit as it comes. According to the reply, a launch is on the horizon, and the prices will be revealed the same day as well. If you missed out on the reveal of the car in the chaos of the Auto Expo, then read on:
The sporty quotient on the outside has been taken up a notch. The blacked-out roof and alloy wheels paired with the bright red colour look menacing. The white stripes on the roofline (with a chequered flag motif) and bonnet bring out the racy element, and add to that the red inserts throughout the all-black cabin and you’ve got a different and sportier feel inside.
Also contributing to the different feel on the inside is the addition of a sunroof and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. Other new features on board the Altroz Racer include a seven-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, air purifier, and most importantly, the presence of six airbags.

The Racer for the Altroz is basically what the N Line is for the Hyundai i20. But unlike the latter, Tata has made upgrades to its powertrain, instead of tweaking the mechanicals. Now that isn’t a bad thing after all considering the setup already has great ride and handling manners. It now gets a more powerful engine from the Tata stable; the Nexon’s 120PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine in place of the 110PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol mill, paired with a six-speed MT instead of a five-speed MT found in the i-Turbo.

So it certainly packs the go to match its looks. And given that the Hyundai i20 N Line isn’t doing too bad for itself, the launch of the Altroz Racer just makes sense to spice up the hot hatch segment. We hope the launch comes sooner than later, and when it does, expect a steeper price tag over the current prices of the i-Turbo variants, which range between Rs 8.35 lakh and Rs 9.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
