The Tata Punch, at certain occasions, was the top selling car in the Indian market

The Tata Punch has hit the four lakh sales milestone in the Indian market. The micro SUV went on sale back in October 2021 and achieved this milestone in less than three years. That’s quite commendable for a product and shows how popular it’s in the market. In fact, so popular that the Punch, on certain occasions, is the top selling car in the Indian market.

The Tata Punch, along its journey, got quite a few upgrades and has even spawned an all-electric version with distinguished looks and even more features. Tata says 53 percent of Punch orders are for the petrol version, 33 percent for CNG and 14 percent for the EV.

Tata Punch Debut And Updates

It debuted in the market in October 2021, offering buyers the design and styling of an SUV in a compact footprint, making it an easy car to drive around town. At launch, the Punch faced zilch competition as rivals such as Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 Nxt weren’t really popular on the day.

Tata Punch First Drive

Even before its launch, the Tata Punch rose to fame as it scored a 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash safety test. While it carried on largely unchanged since its launch, the Punch did get multiple new special editions along the way, such as the Camo and Kaziranga Edition.

The year 2023 was the time where the Punch faced its real threat in the form of the Hyundai Exter. But Tata soon responded by introducing the CNG version with its twin-cylinder tech (the Exter now gets it as well), adding to the practicality quotient. Tata also took this opportunity to add in new features such as a sunroof and wireless phone charger.

Meet The Tata Punch EV

Come 2024 and the Punch’s nameplate got a brand new addition in the form of the Tata Punch EV. It got styling tweaks to set it apart from the ICE version and plentiful feature additions such a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen and ventilated front seats for a more premium experience. But the biggest talking point is that it’s based on Tata’s new Acti.ev dedicated electric vehicle platform. And considering Tata’s record for crash safety rating, the Punch EV became the safest car ever to be tested by Bharat NCAP.
