This MG electric vehicle you see here in this report is the 5 estate. Now, this particular body style wasn't really well accepted here. The Tata Indigo Marina, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and Volvo V90 Cross Country are some examples which did poorly in India. Nevertheless, this car will be the first electric estate to be showcased on our shores at Auto Expo 2023.
Starting with the styling, the sleek grille that merges on to the swept-back headlamps and the sporty bumper makes it look like a dialled-down EV6. A sharp crease runs through the profile in which the car looks good thanks to the large dual-tone alloy wheels. Large spilt LED tail lamps and minimalistically styled bumper round off the overall design.
Inside, the cabin of the MG 5 EV’s is finished in light colours giving it a nice and airy feel. The two-tone dash’s main attention is the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Also, the quite high central console gives the cabin a nice sporty cockpit-like vibe. And like any other MG you’ve known about, the 5 EV comes brimmed with features.
Highlights include a digital driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, heated front seats, connected car tech and keyless entry with push button start. Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and a full suite of ADAS.
The 5 EV is available in only a single Long Range powertrain option. A 61kWh battery pack powers a 156PS electric motor that’s good enough to take it from nought to 96kmph in 7.3 seconds. Depending on the driving cycle, the estate clocks up to (a WLTP-claimed) 524km. It supports fast-charging and has vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality as well.
The MG 5 will be showcased alongside other MG cars such as the facelifted MG Hector and Hector Plus, 4 premium electric hatchback, Air compact EV and ZS EV as well.
