No matter who you are or what you believe in, there is one universal truth that cannot be denied: Yamaha makes breathtaking bikes. Not only in terms of how brilliantly they perform and how rich the electronic aids are, but also how simply gorgeous the bikes look. Proving my point here is the Yamaha XSR900 DB40 prototype custom bike showcased at the 2023 Goodwood Festival Of Speed.
Now of course, the standard sports heritage bike looks like a gorgeous thing you might want to possess, but the DB40 prototype looks like what God’s sweet nectar would taste like. And do I even say anything more about the way it looks? Just take a look at it for yourself and you will certainly understand my excitement at this moment.
The half fairing looks reminiscent of the iconic Yamaha YZF R1, and have I already mentioned that the DB40’s cafe racer appeal is eye-wateringly beautiful? Well, I simply can’t state it enough.
The standard bike makes 119PS and 93Nm from its 890cc liquid-cooled three-cylinder engine.

Features a custom Akrapovic side-slung exhaust, instead of the underbelly unit on the standard bike. This should offer a bit more performance from the motor.
Side panels are the same as standard but it gets a new single-piece seat along with a rear cowl that completes the cafe racer look.
With the black and grey colour scheme, the XSR900 looks stealthy and head-turning at the same time.
While the Yamaha XSR900 is available in Europe, India has not yet been blessed with this machine. And it is not likely that the bike will come to India. However, Yamaha is planning to launch some of its big bikes soon. Check them out here.
Also, the DB40 prototype is yard-built and will not go into production for mass market sale.
