Car sales in India saw marginal growth in June 2024 compared to the previous month, with the Tata Punch regaining its top spot, knocking off May 2024’s best-seller, the Maruti Suzuki Swift. This highlights continued consumer preference for SUVs. With that being said, here are the top 10 best-selling cars in India for June 2024.

The micro SUV offering from Tata Motors remains a popular choice among Indian car buyers and continues to lead in Indian car sales. In June 2024, it may have surpassed the Maruti Suzuki Swift to regain its top spot, however it experienced a month-on-month sales dip of 3.75 percent, with 18,238 units sold. Do note that the sales figures mentioned above include both the Punch and Punch EV.

Offered with multiple powertrain options, the ICE-powered Tata Punch comes equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 88 PS and 115 Nm. You can further configure this engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit that reduces the power output to 73.5 PS and 103 Nm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. As for features, the Punch gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 6-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, connected car tech, a single-pane sunroof, and cruise control. On the safety front, it gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, a reverse parking camera with sensors, and TPMS.
Moving on to the Punch EV, it is offered with two battery pack options: a 25 kWh and a 35 kWh battery pack. You can view its powertrain specifications detailed below:

Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a 360-degree camera.
Maruti gave its popular nameplate, the Swift a generational update, and since its launch, it has quickly become a car buyer's favourite. The Swift also recently achieved a milestone of 30 lakh cars sold across four generations of the hatchback. However, in June 2024, it saw a dip in sales to 16,422 units compared to the previous month's 19,393 units.

Coming on to the compact SUV segment, the Hyundai Creta continues to be the best-selling model. With over 16,000 units sold, it saw a sales increase of over 10 percent compared to May 2024. These sales numbers also include the performance-oriented ‘N-line’ model, which is offered only with the 160 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.

Considered a popular choice among car buyers with large families, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the only MPV in the top 10 best-selling cars list. Maruti sold over 15,900 units of the Ertiga, which is not only more than the previous month’s 13,893 but also surpasses the 8,422 units sold in June 2023.

Features-wise, it gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker sound system, paddle shifters (automatic transmission variants), and automatic climate control. On the safety front, it gets up to four airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear parking camera with sensors, electronic stability control, and hill hold assist.
The premium hatchback from Maruti saw a 13.78 percent sales increase compared to the previous month. With 14,895 units sold, the Baleno also experienced a rise from June 2023’s 14,077 units.

In June 2024, sales fell for one of Maruti's best sellers. The Indian carmaker delivered 13,790 units of the Wagon R, down from 14,492 units in May 2024 and significantly lower than the 17,481 units sold in June 2023.

Being the only sedan among the best-selling cars of June 2024, the Dzire saw a sales drop from 16,061 units in May 2024 to 13,042 in June 2024, pushing it down four positions from third to seventh.

In June 2024, Maruti sold 13,172 units of the Brezza, slightly down from the previous month's 14,186 units. Despite this dip, the Brezza remains the best-selling subcompact SUV in India, outperforming the likes of Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, and Tata Nexon.

This figure is lower than the previous month’s 13,717 units but higher than the 8,648 units sold in June 2023.

In contrast, the Scorpio N offers a range of modern features such as a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker Sony sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and wireless phone charging. It boasts enhanced safety features including up to six airbags, electronic stability control , a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold assist.

The Tata Nexon has proven to be a resounding success for the carmaker since its introduction. In June 2024, Tata Motors sold 12,066 units of the subcompact SUV which was more than 11,457 units sold in May 2024. Do note that these sales numbers also include that of the Nexon EV.
