The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that happens every year is sort of like the Auto Expo for electronics and tech around the globe. Although we usually get a sneak peek of the technology destined for the future, some carmakers often use CES to unveil their latest tech, concepts and even new models. This year’s CES is not different when it comes to automotive news and to make your life easier, here are the top 5 auto news from CES 2023:
Yes, the Japanese tech giant Sony is going to make EVs, but that does not come across as news since Sony had already showcased two concepts in previous CES events. But this time around, we have a name and an all-new sedan which is built in partnership with Honda: the Afeela! Technical details of the Afeela are all under wraps but we do know that deliveries will begin in 2026 and the sedan will feature cutting edge tech including AI assistance and autonomous capabilities.
Volkswagen's first electric sedan, the ID.7 which will join the brand’s extensive portfolio of electric cars in 2023, has been unveiled with its camo on. The sedan is touted to offer a maximum range of around 700 km and will go up against Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 and Tesla model 3. When launched, the ID.7 will be the EV that offers the most range of any Volkswagen. Apart from this, the sedan also features augmented reality heads-up and a 15-inch touchscreen unit that also houses all the essential features.

BMW has unveiled what happens to be one of the most radical concepts from the German brand. In a nutshell, the i Vision Dee (Digital Emotional Experience) is a car that can talk back to the users and can even express moods according to BMW. It also features huge kidney grilles with in-built displays, body panels that can change colours in seconds and a windshield that doubles as a huge display. There’s so much going on with the new concept sedan and this might just be where the brand is headed in terms of design and tech.
Volvo showcased the EX90 flagship electric SUV at the CES 2023 while also confirming that deliveries will begin in early 2024. It will be offered with a 111kWh battery pack that can deliver up to 517PS along with a maximum range of 600 km (WLTP). On the inside, it features a 14.5-inch touchscreen with 5G compatibility and built-in Google OS. In true Volvo fashion and being the flagship EV, the EX90 also gets a plethora of safety features such as eight cameras, a radar system and LiDAR.
We are not sure how to feel about this news - Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming services are expected to be available for cars shortly. The brand is working with carmakers such as Hyundai, BYD and Polestar to bring full gaming experience to cars. Technical details are under wraps but Nvidia says the passengers can enjoy over 1000 games including AAA-titles with the help of a controller while waiting inside the car or while charging the car. So that basically means you can play The Witcher 3 while recharging your car.
