Demand for SUVs have significantly increased in recent times due to the growing aspirations and desire of Indian buyers for the sub-4 metre SUV segment vehicles. In line with this growing demand, many automakers are now offering products to cater to that need, leading to a fierce battle for the top spot in the segment. We take a look at exactly that by listing the top 5 best performing sub-4 metre SUVs in terms of sales in June 2024 :

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The highest selling sub-4 metre SUV tag is bagged by none other than the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, with over 13,172 units sold in the month of June, 2024. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza’s sales declined in comparison to May, 2024 by approximately 7.6 percent, but the year on year sales grew by 24.5 percent. 

Maruti Suzuki Brezza: Key Highlights

  • Price Range: Rs 8.34 lakh to Rs 14.14 lakh (ex-showroom)

  • Fuel Type: Petrol / CNG

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 103 PS and 137 Nm. It can be had with the option of either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Maruti Brezza also offers a factory fitted CNG option, which can be had with the 5-speed manual transmission and produces 88 PS and 121.5 Nm.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is feature packed with niceties such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless phone connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a premium 6-speaker Arkamys-tuned sound system, a single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control unit, wireless phone charging, cruise control, and even a heads-up display. Safety tech includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, as standard across all the variants and electronic stability control, and a 360-degree surround view camera with rear parking sensors.

Tata Nexon

With over 12,066 units sold in the month of June, 2024 (Nexon and Nexon EV combined), the Tata Nexon secures the second spot in our list. The month-on-month sales grew by a margin of  5.3 percent over the previous month but the sales have seen a slight decline when compared to the sales of last year.

Tata Nexon: Key Highlights

  • Price Range: Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15.79 lakh (Nexon) 

  • Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh (Nexon EV)

  • Fuel Type: Petrol /Diesel / EV

The Tata Nexon has been one of the highest selling Tata cars and is offered in multiple powertrain options. It gets powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine which can be had with a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and produces 120 PS and 170 Nm. There is also an option of a 1.5-litre diesel engine which is mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT automatic transmission and produces 115 PS and 260 Nm.

The facelifted Nexon now comes with feature niceties like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, a single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control unit, and wireless phone charging. 

Safety features encompass six airbags, ABS with EBD, as standard across the line-up along with electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, seat belt reminders for all occupants, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a 360-degree surround view camera with front and rear parking sensors.

Tata Nexon EV: Key Highlights

The Tata Nexon EV gets the option of two battery packs: Medium range and Long Range . Customers get the option of a smaller 30 kWh battery pack paired to an  electric motor with an output of 129 PS and 215 Nm. The setup has a claimed range of 325 km.

The second option is of a larger 40.5 kWh battery pack which sends charge to the 143 PS/215 Nm motor . This setup has a 465 km claimed range.

Apart from the aforementioned features included in the ICE model, the Nexon EV gets additions like a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a premium JBL surround sound system and vehicle-to-load (V2L) tech.

Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue secures the third position in our list with 9890 units sold in the month of June, 2024. In comparison to the previous month (May,2024), the sales grew by 6 percent, while the year-on-year sales dipped by 15 percent.

  • Price Range: Rs 7.94 lakh to Rs 13.48 lakh (ex-showroom)

  • Fuel Type: Petrol / Diesel

The Hyundai Venue is offered in a total of three different powertrains with both diesel and petrol engine options. There is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which produces 83 PS and is available only with a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1-litre turbo petrol unit which generates 120 PS can be had with either a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic) or a 6-speed iMT (automated manual), and a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 116 PS, available with a sole 6-speed manual transmission. 

The Hyundai Venue comes loaded with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a semi-digital driver’s display, connected car tech, automatic climate control unit, a single-pane sunroof, air purifier, cooled glovebox, wireless phone charging, four-way power adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry and push button start/stop functionality. 

On the safety front, the Venue comes equipped with 6-airbags, ABS and EBD as standard across the trims along with electronic stability control, rear parking camera with sensors, hill-hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system and also a dash-cam.

Kia Sonet

The Kia Sonet stacks up at the fourth position in our list with over 9,816 units sold across the country in the month of June, 2024. The year-on-year sales saw an increase by 27 percent. Noticeably, the month-on-month sales grew by a whopping 32 percent when compared to May, 2024.

  • Price Range: Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 15.74 lakh (ex-showroom)

  • Fuel Type: Petrol / Diesel

Similar to the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet is also offered with three powertrain options to choose from. It gets a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83 PS which can be opted with the single option of a 5-speed manual transmission. The second option is a 1-litre turbo petrol unit delivering 120 PS and is paired with either a 6-speed iMT (automated manual) and a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic). Finally, a 116 PS, 1.5-litre diesel engine can also be had, with the option of a 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed AMT automatic transmission. 

The Kia Sonet has recently added a plethora of variants to its line-up and gets feature niceties such as a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-speaker premium Bose sound system, a digital driver’s display, connected car tech, a single-pane sunroof, air purifier, ventilated front seats,cruise control, and keyless entry with push button start/stop functionality. 

Its safety kit includes 6-airbags, ABS and EBD as standard across the line up along with electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360 degree surround view camera with front and rear parking sensors and even ADAS features including emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. 

Mahindra XUV 3XO

The fifth position in our sales chart is taken by the recently launched Mahindra XUV 3XO, with over 8,500 units sold in the month of June, 2024. It is worth noting that last year’s sales figures represent the Mahindra XUV300, while this year’s sales report represents the XUV 3XO. The month-on-month sales dipped by 15 percent, while the year-on-year sales saw a tremendous increase by 67 percent.

  • Price Range: Rs 7.49 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom)

  • Fuel Type: Petrol / Diesel

The Mahindra XUV 3XO gets offered with three different powertrain options. A 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 110 PS, mated to 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 1.2-litre turbo T-GDI petrol engine producing 130 PS, mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. There is also an option of a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 117 PS, which can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT automatic transmission. 

Mahindra XUV 3XO interior

The Mahindra XUV 3XO, is the first in the segment to be introduced with a panoramic sunroof option for the higher-spec variants and a dual-zone automatic climate control. Its interiors are feature loaded with the equipment list boasting a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (awaiting an OTA update), connected car tech, wireless phone charging, and driving modes like: Zip, Zap and Zoom. Safety tech includes 6-airbags, ABS with EBD and all four disk brakes as standard across the line-up.
