The Goodwood Festival Of Speed never disappoints with its supercar insanity but this year’s event went above and beyond

The Goodwood Festival Of Speed is THE motorsports event of the year to be at. It’s a celebration of everything on four wheels as it showcases the newest, hottest and most exclusive cars going up the famed 1.86km hillclimb track. And given the length and breadth of the festival’s popularity, a lot of carmakers use the stage to debut their latest inventions, so it’s obvious this year’s event, too, saw plenty of action. Here are the top five cars that made their global debut at the festival of speed:

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

Hyundai took its already capable and potent Ioniq 5 electric hatchback, gave it the N performance treatment, and took it to the Goodwood Festival Of Speed. It grabbed eyeballs and headlines in equal measure, and for good reasons. Hyundai has turned the sportiness and performance dial of the EV up a notch or two with revised aggressive exteriors and an uprated powertrain that now produces up to 650PS in boost mode. More details can be found in our visual story here.

Porsche 357 Speedster

Porsches and Speedsters have a storied history that dates back to the 1980s. For Goodwood’s 30th anniversary, Porsche revealed the 357 Speedster concept, which pays homage (design wise) to the 1948 Porsche 356. Underneath the Speedster, the electric motors and battery technology come from the Mission R and the chassis from the 718 GT4 Clubsport.

The design is new, yet familiarly Porsche, with the curved wheel arches and the 911-ish-like front. Only two of these have been made – one convertible and one coupe. The cabin has been tailored just for the driver, inside the monocoque frame. The entire dashboard is finished in a carbon weave and embodies a purist cockpit.

Lamborghini SC63

Lamborghini unveiled the SC63, its first hybrid racing prototype, at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed. The SC63 will represent Lamborghini at the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (Hypercar class) and at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (GTP class). It packs a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine paired to a hybrid system. The output is limited to 680PS by regulations.

As for its styling, it is mean and functional, with a host of aerodynamic trickery improving the stability of the vehicle. Lamborghini’s dramatic styling is evident here as well, and you get hints of it in the tri-directional Y-shaped LED headlights.

Caterham Project V

Easily one of the most alluring cars at this year’s event, the Caterham Project V is still in a concept (although it does look rather production ready) form, and follows a minimalistic design language. And boy does it work! The curvaceous lines flow smoothly and mingle well with the oval head and taillights.

Minimalist styling apart, the Project V gets its power from a single 272PS rear-mounted electric motor paired to a 55kWh battery. The output doesn’t sound much for a sports car, but when you pair it to the 1190kg kerb weight that Caterham is hoping for, the combination has the potential to hit home. The carmaker is targeting a claimed WLTP range of 400km and a production timeline close to late 2025 or early 2026.

Aston Martin Valour

Before Aston Martin heads into the era of electrification, it is embracing the good old V12 engines that have defined generations of the brand with this: the Valour. It sports a 715PS/753Nm twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 with manually geared goodness. Power goes to the rear wheels only, and the Valour is limited to just 110 units worldwide.

Now these were just a few of the cars that made their global debut at the event this year, and there were also a bunch of others which made their first public debuts at the show as well. Deserving a mention on the front is the one-off Ferrari KC23 and you can watch it lap a wet Goodwood track here:

Even though one of the days of the event was interrupted by rain, the excitement and anticipation for the show and its display of world exclusive cars was unmatched throughout the festival. We can just hope that we can witness the iconic festival of speed in person, at least once in this lifetime or the next one (we just wanna go).
