The new Innova Hycross is more premium than ever and will be priced in close vicinity to the XUV700, however the Toyota lacks on a few bits compared to Mahindra
The wraps are off the new generation Toyota Innova Hycross and the MPV is more premium than the Innova Crysta. And while prices for the new MPV aren’t out yet, we expect its prices to interject the Mahindra XUV700 that costs between Rs 13.44 lakh and Rs 24.94 lakh. Both come packing some impressive creature comforts but there are a few things found in the Mahindra that are missing from the Toyota. Let’s take a look at what those might be:
Larger screens
There’s no doubt that the new Innova’s screen game has been upped, but the size is still a tad bit smaller in comparison to the XUV700. While there’s not much of a difference in the central screen sizes of the two – 10.25-inch for the XUV700 and 10.1-inch for the Toyota Innova Hycross; it's the digital driver’s display where the difference becomes more pronounced. The Innova gets a 7-inch TFT display while the XUV700 gets a fully digital 10.25-inch display. Also, the positioning of the screens in the XUV look more premium and similar to Mercedes cars.
Rain sensing wipers
Rain sensing wipers have been given a miss on the Toyota Innova Hycross, while the feature is offered in the top AX7 trim of the Mahindra XUV700.
Diesel engine with AWD
The new generation Innova doesn’t get a diesel engine anymore. Instead, there’s a petrol and a petrol hybrid powertrain on offer, both sending power to the front wheels only. On the other hand, the XUV gets a 2.2-litre, diesel alongside a 2-litre, turbo-petrol unit. And unlike the Innova Hycross, the XUV700 gets an optional all-wheel drivetrain exclusive to the top-spec diesel automatic AX7 and AX7 L trims. So if you’re a high mileage user or someone who prefers to venture out, the XUV700 is the pick here.
Manual transmission
Mahindra offers the XUV700 with the option of both manual and automatic transmission irrespective of the powertrain. On the other hand, the new Toyota Innova Hycross is only available with an automatic gearbox unlike the Crystathatcomes with a manual as standard. So if you want a stick shifter, you have to look elsewhere from the Hycross.
Built-in Alexa
The Mahindra XUV700 gets built-in Alexa functionality that allows users to control a host of features using voice commands. For the uninitiated, Alexa is an Amazon based operating system that can bring up navigation, play music, make calls, and do much more just by activating the voice system by saying ‘Hey Alexa’. This functionality isn’t availableon the new Innova Hycross, but it still get basic connected features.
It's not like the Innova Hycross’ features list is spartan. The MPV is a well-equipped package and while these were the features that the Innova Hycross misses out on, it does get a few features over the Mahindra, the details of which can be found at our sister company Cardekho’s portal.
