Kia recently unveiled the 2024 Sonet facelift, and not too long ago, the 2023 Seltos was launched, both of them featuring updated design and new features. Prices of the subcompact SUV are expected in early 2024, with the higher-end variants expected to be priced in the ballpark of the Seltos’ mid-spec variants. This makes for a good cross-shopping feud if you’re in the lookout for a new SUV in the same budget.
If you're considering either of the Kia SUVs mentioned above, we've simplified the decision-making process by comparing the top-spec variant of Sonet with the mid-spec variant of Seltos. Check it out!

Kia is yet to announce the pricing of the 2024 Sonet facelift. However, we expect the higher-end GTX+ variant of Sonet from around Rs 13.3 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). So to keep things fair, in this comparison we have picked the mid-spec HTK+ variant of 2023 Seltos.

Considering the segment to which both belong, it is evident that the Seltos is bigger in size in every way, translating to more space inside. However, if you look at the width and height of both cars, there isn't much of a difference, as the Seltos is only 10mm wider and is, in fact, shorter by 7 mm.

Kia revealed the 2024 Sonet with new features like a digital driver’s display and ADAS, enhancing the already feature-loaded cabin of the Sonet. Looking at the features list, you can see both the SUVs are feature-loaded. However, the Seltos, being a mid-spec variant, misses out on connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, and ventilated front seats.

Both the cars get similar engine options, but if you are looking for more performance, the 2023 Seltos is offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which is paired with clutchless manual transmission (iMT). The Sonet offers you the convenience of automatic transmission at these prices, but do note that the manual transmission and iMT is available with the lower-specced variants of 2024 Sonet, so you have to step down.
In the end, your choice would primarily depend on whether to choose a larger SUV with lesser features or stick to a sub-4m model with more equipment, which will be advantageous in city traffic and day-to-day driving conditions.
Opting for the mid-spec Seltos over the top-spec Sonet would also mean compromising on features such as the digital driver's display and especially ADAS, which has become a crucial safety feature nowadays. Regardless of that, the Seltos HTK+ still has all the equipment you need for day to day usage. That said, if you desire the convenience of an automatic transmission, you would need to stick with the Sonet or upgrade to higher-spec variants of the Seltos.
Taking into account these advantages and disadvantages, you can make an informed decision based on your preferences. You may have to sacrifice something to gain another. But either way, you can't go wrong with either of them.
