With just 5000 bucks separating them, does it make more sense to pick the top-spec Nexon EV over the one-above-base-trim Harrier? We list down the pros and cons
Tata is on a roll lately, with multiple model updates, which effectively saw its entire SUV lineup get a mid-life facelift. This included the launch of the 2023 Nexon EV, followed soon after by the 2023 Harrier. Both get a similar treatment and have prices that overlap each other. As a result, the Tata Harrier Pure Plus AT variant and the top-spec Nexon EV have just Rs 5,000 between them. So in this story, we compare the two to help you make an informed decision between the two if you’re intending to do some cross shopping before signing the cheque.

The Tata Harrier can effectively be considered the big brother of the Nexon. Correspondingly, it becomes a bigger alternative to the Nexon EV as well. Just in terms of size, the Harrier beats the Nexon EV in every parameter, with a significant disparity in length and wheelbase. This translates into more space inside the cabin and also a larger boot space.

In terms of features, Tata upped the game for both the Harrier facelift and Nexon EV facelift, but the top-spec guise of the Nexon EV is too good for the Tata Harrier Pure Plus AT variant. The EV packs a bigger screen, more creature comforts like ventilated seats, and additional safety equipment like a 360-degree camera.
While the Harrier Pure Plus AT’s features list isn’t spartan in any sense, it falls short of the fully loaded Nexon EV variant.

This is where the biggest disparity between the two comes in - their powertrains. While the Harrier continues to be a diesel guzzler with its 2-litre oil burner, the Nexon EV packs an all electric powertrain, comprising a 40.5kWh battery pack sending charge to a 143PS electric motor.
While the Harrier wins in terms of outright output, the Nexon’s electric nature offers a more refined and responsive experience. The refinement comes from its silent electric motor, while the responsiveness is a virtue of its ability to deliver instant torque. In terms of running costs, the Nexon EV will also be more frugal in the longer run.
Verdict
Putting everything together, here are the pros and cons if you pick the Harrier Pure Plus AT over the top-spec Nexon:
Pros
-
Bigger car, better road presence
-
Brawny styling
-
Better space inside cabin
-
More boot space
-
Powerful diesel engine
Cons
-
Misses out on a few creature comforts
-
Not as refined as the electric Nexon
-
Not as responsive as the electric powertrain
-
More expensive to run
So, factoring in these pros and cons, you can make an informed decision for yourself. You surely will have to sacrifice something in order to gain another, but either way, you can’t go wrong with either of them.
