Toyota has introduced a new Commander trim in the Fortuner; in the land of smiles, also known as Thailand. Limited to a 1000 examples, the Commander is based on the standard trim, and gets all the niceties and design touches from the premium-looking Fortuner Legender.
All the shiny bits on the grille, window line, and rear tailgate are now blacked-out for that stealth look. The alloy wheels, which get a dual-tone outfit, are shared with the Legender and add to the premium appeal. Finally, the Commander comes in two dual-tone shades: White/Black and Red/Black.
Inside, the dashboard design remains unchanged from the standard SUV. However, the seats and door pads adorn a new red-black upholstery.
The specifications aren’t that commanding, though, as the Fortuner Commander gets the smaller 150PS/400Nm 2.4-litre diesel engine, paired to a 6-speed automatic and rear-wheel drivetrain. This trim doesn’t get all-wheel drive, 2.7litre petrol, or the larger 2.8-litre diesel engine option. That said, the Commander rides on a revised set of springs
Since this is a limited production model, it’s likely to be limited to the Thai market. In India, the SUV is currently priced from Rs 31.39 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with the MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, and Skoda Kodiaq.
