Prices For The Toyota Hyryder Mild Hybrid Variants To Be Revealed By Early October

• Toyota’s first compact SUV in India.

• Boasts a segment-first, strong-hybrid powertrain shared with the Maruti Grand Vitara.

• Gets both mild and strong-hybrid powertrain options, paired to a 1.5-litre petrol mill.

• Prices for the strong-hybrid powertrain range between Rs 15.11 lakh and Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom)

• The strong-hybrid powertrain is exclusive to the S, G, and V trims.

Not even a week has passed since Toyota revealed the prices for the strong-hybrid variants of the Hyryder, and we’ve got wind that the marque will disclose the prices for the mild-hybrid variants by the end of September or at the latest by the first week of October. Roughly around the same time as the launch of its cousin, the Maruti Grand Vitara.

Things we know

We know pretty much everything apart from the prices for both the two-wheel and all-wheel drive mild-hybrid powertrain variants. Powertrain options for the compact SUV include a four-cylinder (103PS), 1.5-litre petrol mill with mild-hybrid tech and a three-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol mill with self-charging, strong-hybrid tech producing a combined 116PS. The latter is geared using an e-CVT gearbox, while the mild-hybrid powertrain gets a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

There is also an all-wheel drive powertrain available, exclusive to the mild-hybrid manual trim. All other powertrain options are front-wheel drive only. The strong-hybrid powertrain is sold in three trims: S, G, and V, priced from Rs 15.11 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). 

What to expect?

While Toyota revealed the prices for the strong-hybrid trims, we did also get a price tag for the two-wheel drive, range-topping, mild-hybrid V trim, which costs Rs 1.9 lakh less than the strong-hybrid powertrain in the same trim. However, we expect the all-wheel drive mild-hybrid trims to charge a premium over the corresponding strong-hybrid variants. The base-spec mild-hybrid E trim could be priced from Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. 

The Hyryder becomes the first compact SUV to pack a strong-hybrid powertrain in the compact SUV fray, which includes the likes of the MG Astor, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. This space will also see the addition of the Maruti Grand Vitara very soon.
